After spending several years promoting brands on social media, the former Keeping Up With the Kardashians star launched her companies in the late 2010s. Today, she runs a shapewear line, SKIMS, and a skincare brand, KKW Beauty.

Long before Kardashian made a business out of her love for style, she emulated a popular ‘90s movie character as a child.

Although she despised going to school, Kardashian West followed what was trending during her teenage years. In an interview with Seventeen Magazine, she said watching Cher Horowitz (Alicia Silverstone) in the 1995 movie Clueless greatly influenced her high school career.

“When I was 17 I saw the movie Clueless, and that fashion was my life,” Kardashian West said. “The outfits from Judy’s were the outfits I’d wear. I literally had at least 10 of the outfits Cher had. Also, it was pretty cool to have different colored beepers. I’d change my color every weekend.”

Kim Kardashian West often pays homage to celebrities through fashion

Despite dressing like Silverstone’s iconic character every day, Kardashian West looks to several celebrities for fashion inspiration. Additionally, the mother of four typically uses Halloween to honor other notable figures in the entertainment industry. Some of Kardashian West’s costumes included Aaliyah, Selena Quintanilla, and Madonna throughout the years.

. In 2019, Kardashian West shocked some fans when she photographed herself wearing outfits that Naomi Campbell wore on multiple runways. According to W Magazine, a fan reacted to Kardashian West’s looks with a video riddled with side-by-side comparisons of her and Campbell. Additionally, they played Mariah Carey’s “Obsessed,” implying that Kardashian West intentionally stole the ‘90s model’s look.

Following the video’s release, the E! star said Campbell wasn’t mad at her for wearing the same designer garments decades later.

“It’s funny because people were writing about it like it was some scandalous thing,” she told People. “I’ve always been so open that she is the ultimate fashion and glam muse. She got the best runway looks. [Campbell] and I have talked about it and laughed that it has become such a big deal because I’ve always been so upfront with her privately about how she is my forever fashion and glam muse.”

Kanye West influenced her style during their marriage

In addition to using ‘90s style icons as fashion inspiration, Kardashian West said Kanye West changed her style. When they started dating in 2012, the Donda rapper gave her a “complete makeover” after saying his wife has the “worst style.”

Throughout their seven-year marriage, West styled Kardashian West with multiple high-fashion looks that were both hits and misses. However, she said the relationship gave her the confidence not to care what the public thinks.

“Being in a relationship with Kanye for a decade, someone that absolutely didn’t care about likeability factor or what any of perception of him was as long as he was true to himself … that taught me so much in the best way of just being me and living in the moment,” she said during an appearance on We are supported by podcast.

The podcast interview took place months after Kardashian West filed for divorce from West. While their marriage might be over, the reality star continues to show off her new fashion looks on Instagram.
