Why C-Murder is behind bars

C-Murder rose to prominence in the 90s as part of his brother Master P’s record label with the hip hop group TRU. Aside from the group, he released several solo projects. His career came to a pause when speculation about his involvement in the shooting death of a teenager began.

According to MTV News, a jury found the rapper guilty due to witness testimony. He allegedly shot the victim in the chest as the teen lay on his back. The rapper’s friends also reportedly beat the teen.

A jury previously convicted C-Murder of the crime, but he was awarded a new trial from a judge. While awaiting a new trial, C-Murder was free on house arrest. A new trial brought on the same outcome.

MTV reports that the victim, Steve Thomas, loved C-Murder and other rappers on No Limit.

On the evening of the incident, Thomas lied to his father about going to the movies with friends. In actuality, he was attending a local concert featuring C-Murder performing in a rap competition.

C-Murder has always denied any involvement. A jury felt otherwise, and C-Murder was sentenced to life in prison in 2009.

Since being in jail, he’s continued to release music, as well as books to support his family. He and his family have also fought for his release, claiming his innocence.

How Kim Kardashian West is helping C-Murder

New information about C-Murder’s case began to cause speculation that C-Murder may in fact be innocent. In 2018, two key witnesses recanted their statements, alleging they testified under pressure from authorities.

C-Murder’s active on Instagram and in recent weeks, has brought new attention to the case by calling for a new trial. The rapper’s ex-girlfriend and close friend, singer Monica, also uses her platform and connections to help.

Monica contacted La La Anthony to connect her and C-Murder with Kardashian West in hopes of getting the reality star on board with appealing for a new trial.

Kim Kardashian West Shares Why She’s So Passionate About Her Justice Reform Efforts

Kardashian West is confident that C-Murder deserves a new trial.

“The jury convicted Corey [C-Murder] 10-2 and he was sentenced him [sic] to life in prison. If his trial was today, the jury would have had to be unanimous for him to be convicted,” Kardashian West writes on Twitter.

“Since his trial, witnesses have recanted, new evidence of his potential innocence has come to light, and there are claims of jurors being pressured into voting to convict…True justice for the young man requires that the person who actually killed him be held responsible and that Corey Miller [C-Murder] he [sic] returned home to his kids.”

C-Murder and his family are thankful for Kardashian West’s help and are hopeful for moving forward. Some fans criticize Kardashian west’s involvement, believing her celebrity may overshadow the efforts to have C-Murder free. But, Master P says Kardashian West’s involvement may be extremely helpful.
