Is ‘The Kissing Booth 3’ Coming to Netflix? Joey King Says the Cast Wants to Return for Another Round
No one could have predicted the success of The Kissing Booth upon its Netflix release back in 2018. The film quickly became one of the most re-watched movies on the streaming platform. So it was no surprise the teen rom-com received a sequel. But as the second installment nears its release date, fans are wondering whether The Kissing Booth 3 is on the horizon. Recently, Joey King revealed how fans can help make the third film happen.
Joey King is confident in ‘The Kissing Booth 2’
In an interview with Today published on July 22, King opened up about the surprising impact of Netflix’s The Kissing Booth.
“The amount that it blew up was such a surprise,” she said. “The fact that the fans loved it so much that we were able to get a second film is unbelievable.”
King later added, “It was so crazy because people would come to me and be like, ‘Oh are you from The Kissing Booth?’ And they would say, ‘I watched this movie, like, seven or nine times!’ It was unbelievable how many times people watched it. I did not, at all, expect that.”
But despite the massive success of the first film, King believes The Kissing Booth 2 will exceed expectations.
“Coming back to do the second one, I’m not going to lie, there was definitely that pressure of making sure it was as good as the first one,” she said. “And I can confidently say that this one is better than the first one, which is not the case a lot of the time for sequels.”
That said, King promised fans the sequel still stays true to the first film when speaking with The Hollywood Reporter.
“We wanted to give fans something to remember. Something that is even bigger and better than the movie that they fell in love with initially,” King said, adding the second film retains the “ridiculously silly nature” of the original.
She continued, “I just think that — not to toot our own horn — but I think we might have hit it out of the park.”

If King’s remarks about The Kissing Booth 2 translates to the response of fans, it seems possible viewers will want to see another film from the franchise. Then in the above interview with Today, the publication hinted the sequel leaves the door open for a third installment. And according to King, the main cast wants to return for The Kissing Booth 3.
“Well, me and the cast have been talking and we want that so bad,” King said.
Then the actor pointed out another film is more likely if fans let Netflix know it’s what they want.
“We’re kind of relying on the fans to help us out,” King said. “They loved the first one so much. They’re the reason that we got a sequel. So if they love this one and they make it known to the world and to Netflix, our fingers are crossed that Netflix will give us a third movie. Because that’s what we want really badly.”
Meanwhile, it appears Beth Reekles, the author of The Kissing Booth, is working on multiple new novels.
“That’s two new books edited back to back in the last two months, a quick break this weekend for TKB2 coming out on Netflix, and then into edits on another book next week,” Reekles wrote in an Instagram post published on July 20.
The author also liked a fan’s comment, which asked whether there would be another Kissing Booth book to look forward to. So if Reekles wants to expand Elle’s story, there will be more material for Netflix to work with moving forward. But whatever happens, we know it’s going to be a fun ride. So stay tuned.
Update: During the Fan Fest livestream on July 26, the cast confirmed The Kissing Booth 3. The new film will be released in 2021.
