Though Stewart had quite a few films on her resume, she’d never done blockbuster films like Twilight before. Funnily enough, Stewart had no idea that Twilight would become the global phenomenon that it did when she first accepted the role. In fact, Stewart and her co-star, Robert Pattinson, likened the experience of shooting the first film to shooting a small indie movie.

Kristen Stewart never expected the ‘Twilight’ movies to be so popular

The Runaways actor began getting a small glimpse of how big Twilight’s fan base was when she did the press tour for the first film. She cites Comic-Con as the first time she and her fellow castmates realized that they were a part of something huge. That suspicion was only heightened in interviews when she was constantly asked about potential sequels and the massive built-in fanbase that the movies would inherit because of the popular books.

As Stewart wasn’t used to so many interviews, she wasn’t exactly sure how to navigate them. This led to her tempering some of her passion for Twilight. According to Stewart, this stopped fans and the media from seeing just how much she enjoyed the films and the books that inspired them. In an interview with The Virginian-Pilot, Stewart explained how her interviewing style changed as time went on.

The actor says she was initially reserved about how much liked the ‘Twilight’ books

“When I first began doing interviews, I was shy about saying how much I respected the ‘Twilight’ books and the role of Bella,” Stewart confessed. “It was almost as if I was ashamed to be doing these films. Quite the opposite. This is a challenging and great role, and I’m so in awe of the writing and the novels. Now, I’m comfortable enough to say that. Now that I’ve stopped trying to control how people think about me, I’m better at interviews. It can’t be controlled.”

Once Stewart stopped trying to control what fans and the media thought of her, it was more apparent just how much she loved Twilight. In fact, often Stewart’s passion for the books rivaled that of fans. But which of the four books was her favorite? According to the actor, she really loved “New Moon” because fans get to see a whole different side to Bella and who she is now that Edward has removed himself from her life.

Stewart’s favorite book in the series is ‘New Moon’

“It’s my favorite because Bella is thrown for a loop,” Stewart shared about “New Moon.” Her entire world is turned upside down when Edward leaves her. She goes into depression. She goes into uncertainty. She’s maturing. She’s growing up. It’s an entirely different movie from Twilight.” Clearly, Stewart had an appreciation for the Twilight Saga. If you’d like to revisit her infamous role, all five films are currently streaming on Hulu.
