Some of the world’s most elusive and hard to find cars, whether they are older model classics or new, off the line introductions, are often owned by celebrities. Of course, it’s those high-profile Hollywood stars who have the budget to pay for these rare gem vehicles. Leonardo DiCaprio, for example, was one of the first to buy a very special car before anyone else had the chance. But it’s not the multi-million dollar ride that you might think. It only set him back $100,000, but he was certainly the only one on his block to park this car in his garage.

Leonardo DiCaprio is as big a star as they get

Leonardo DiCaprio started his acting career young with regular television appearances as a child star. He soon transitioned to the big screen and almost immediately began collecting the award hardware proving his talent, including an Academy Award for his role in The Revenant. With blockbuster films like Titanic and more recently, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, DiCaprio proves he’s still at the top of his acting game. And as of today, he’s estimated to be worth $260 million, according to Insider.

A passion for environmental causes

While many of Hollywood’s A-listers voice their support for various charities, Leonardo DiCaprio is far more passionate about his causes. He’s an environmental guardian of sorts, using his public platform and available wealth, to contribute to missions that sound the alarms about the state of the planet. He founded the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation in 1998, lending his name to the non-profit devoted to promoting ecological challenges. This foundation produces documentaries, including Water Planet and Global Warming. DiCaprio also sits on the boards for Global Green USA, the World Wildlife Fund, and the International Fund for Animal Welfare.

This car collection is a little different than most

While many of Hollywood’s biggest stars spend their wealth on exotic, rare, and expensive cars, Leonardo DiCaprio prefers something a little different. Instead of Lamborghini’s or Rolls Royce classics, his garage is full of eco-friendly, green vehicles. He’s been pictured behind the wheel of his favorite daily driver, the Toyota Prius. He also has a Volvo XC90 T8 Hybrid Plug-In, according to Luxury Launches. Being mindful of fuel efficiency and carbon footprints doesn’t mean DiCaprio doesn’t need a little speed and fun behind the wheel. For those days, he drives his Tesla Roadster, which, according to the Tesla website, is the quickest car in the world, clocking at 60-miles-per-hour in only 1.9 seconds.

When you think eco-friendly automakers, you probably first think Tesla or Rivian. But another name worth adding to your knowledge bank is Fisker. It’s a lesser-known, and much smaller automobile manufacturer, responsible for producing the Fisker Karma. And when this environmentally conscious car rolled off the production line for the very first time, Leonardo DiCaprio was there to write the $100,000 check, according to Hot Cars.

This luxury electric vehicle sedan boasts an extended range capability far beyond the current roster of available EV models on the market. It’s not really known for its good looks and didn’t fare as popular with the expert reviews. But for DiCaprio, its ability to go further on a charge was enough to seal the deal. The car has two electric motors along with its backup, 260 hp gas-powered engine. It also has a 20 kWh lithium-ion battery that allows the car to drive up to 50 miles on a charge. It’s not a grocery-getter kind of car either, with top speed potential of 154 kph.

When someone as successful as Leonardo DiCaprio only buys eco-friendly vehicles, it proves he lives what he preaches. But it doesn’t mean he doesn’t want the rare, top-performing models, either. His Fisker Karma seems to fit into both categories, making it a must-have for him.
