Lil Nas X and BTS To Perform Separately at the 2022 Grammy Awards

Lil Nas X and BTS are Grammy-nominated artists, who are separately taking the stage at the 2022 award ceremony. Here’s what we know about their previous and current nominations and their combined performance of “Old Town Road/Seoul Town Road.”

In addition to being a chart-topping K-pop group, the BTS members sometimes branch off to work on solo projects. For RM, that meant collaborating with Lil Nas X for a remix of “Old Town Road,” affectionately known as “Seoul Town Road.” 

For the 2020 Grammy Awards, BTS joined Lil Nas X for his live version of the song, marking the first time Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook performed at the award ceremony.

BTS and Lil Nas X will both perform at the 2022 Grammy Awards

BTS and Lil Nas X will take the stage for the 2022 Grammys, this time performing separately. Other chart-topping artists slated for the award ceremony include Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Jack Harlow, Brandi Carlile, and Brothers Osborne. Trevor Noah will host this music event.

Lil Nas X was nominated for Best New Artist in 2020. BTS earned a Grammy nomination in 2021 for their song “Dynamite,” becoming one of the first Korean artists to obtain a nomination from the western award ceremony. 

“And it’s an incredible honor to be the first Korean pop artist to be nominated for a GRAMMY, and we hope that this is just the beginning,” Jungkook said during an interview with the Grammys. “A win would be significant not only for us but for many who pursue diversity in music.”

Additionally, these artists each received recognition at the upcoming 2022 music event. BTS’ “Butter” snagged a nomination in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category. Lil Nas X earned five nominations for Montero and its corresponding songs, even receiving a nomination in the Album of the Year category.

According to Soompi, the BTS members reflected on their Grammy performance during one V Live. It was a historic moment for BTS. This performance was also a milestone for the “Old Town Road” rapper. 

“Nas said that this was also his first time at the Grammys,” Suga said, according to a translation to English, with Jin adding, “we made our Grammy performance debuts together!”

Jimin revealed, “This was our first time featuring on stage with others,” Jimin said. Although RM and Lil Nas X originally recorded the “Seoul Town Road” remix, this performance featured each of the BTS idols. Suga commented, “Since it was a collaboration stage, I didn’t feel nervous at all and it was really fun.”

This wouldn’t be the only time BTS performed at the Grammys. This K-pop group did a virtual, live version of “Dynamite” for the 2021 award ceremony.
