Who is Lil Nas X?

Lil Nas X first burst onto the scene in 2019 for his single Old Town Road. The EP, 7, was also released in 2019. It included the hit songs like “Panini,” and “Rodeo” It also featured collaborations with Cardi B (who was featured on “Rodeo”) and Travis Barker. Before becoming one of the most recognizable names in the music industry, Lil Nas X built a small fan base on social media, where his songs gained popularity among its users.

Lil Nas X talks about Frank Ocean and Tyler The Creator 

In a recent interview with Zane Lowe, Lil Nas X talked about where he found the inspiration and courage to become the global superstar he is today. At the end of pride month 2019 Lil Nas X made the decision to come out and celebrate his identity. In the interview he explains artists like Frank Ocean and Tyler the Creator influenced him to live freely.

Lil Nas X mentioned those artists made it easier for him to be who is and be comfortable with who he is as a person. 

Lil Nas X specifically mentions one of Frank Ocean’s singles “Provider” as a “special” song that got him through a prior relationship, calling the Channel Orange singer “amazing.”

In the interview, Lil Nas X describes his growing popularity as a catalyst for making the decision to come out as gay.

He explained, “I’m already moving forward and I’m becoming more free with everything I do, so let’s take this to the next level and do this.” Given his platform and position as an artist able to transcend multiple genres in the music industry, Lil Nas X was able to move past any doubts about coming out to become a beacon of light for future generations, stating “Because the day before I was like, ‘D*mn, should I really do this? …And I’m, ‘No, this is definitely what I should do.’ Especially given my platform, where I am, the communities that I stand in between.”

The upcoming debut studio album 

When discussing his highly anticipated studio album, while brief, Lil Nas X mentioned he has been working with many people on the project, including someone who he did not name and remained coy about.  “Very, very popular singer, male, and he’s a record-breaker.” We’ll soon learn who this person’s identity is, as Lil Nas X’s first album is expected sometime in the near future.
