Lorde became a world-famous singer at just 16 years old. So while she could celebrate her achievements with Grammy Awards, she couldn’t celebrate with a drink — both in the U.S. and in her native New Zealand.

Lorde loves summer and warm weather

In 2021, Lorde returned to the music industry after a four-year hiatus with her album Solar Power. The album was notably more acoustic than her previous records Pure Heroine and Melodrama, and she later referred to the project was a “weed album.”

The album was also more lighthearted in tone than much of her past work. On the title track, she spoke about the effect that warm weather has on her, singing, “I hate the winter, can’t stand the cold.”

Lorde’s favorite summer drink is tequila and kombucha

Now 24 years old, Lorde is well-versed in the world of alcohol, and has a few cocktails of choice. One of them in particular might surprise some fans of the Kiwi singer.

“Because of going away to various beach houses my entire life, but particularly adult life, I’ve started to figure out the best ways to kind of pack efficiently so you can eat and drink great things without having to bring a million things or buy a million things,” she said, according to Music News.

“A cocktail that I got super into the last couple summers, if you could call it a cocktail, it’s tequila and kombucha,” she continued. “Now, just let that sink in for a second. So simple yet so genius, preferably with a hefty squeeze of some sort of citrus fruit.”

“Next time it’s 5 P.M., it’s sunny, your skin’s salty from that swim, grab the bottle of tequila. I don’t care what it is, can be garbage, but something nice,” she concluded. “Treat yourself, and a bottle of kombucha, preferably with a sort of ginger, like a lemon ginger kind of note to it. Pour those over ice, add a lemon. Exquisite.”

Lorde loves Christmas in the summer in New Zealand

As someone who grew up in New Zealand, Lorde’s summer months came at the beginning and end of every year, while she lived through winters in the middle of the year.

“I am a Southern hemisphere girl, which means that summer for me is December, January and February, which always seems really hard for people not from the Southern hemisphere to wrap their heads around,” she admitted. “I guess it’s the idea of having a holiday season that is warm and includes swimming.”

Having the holidays in warm weather might be off-putting to some people, but Lorde loves it because she grew up with it. “We get Christmas trees, but they get too hot; it’s not the right season for them. And we eat some traditional Christmas food, but you don’t really want to be eating roast potatoes in the height of summer,” she said. “It’s just different, but it’s what I’ve always known, and it’s my absolute favorite time of year. I think the fact that it’s so imbued with the spirit of the holidays, which is so loving and celebratory and a little silly, that combined with the beautiful weather is just so sick.”
