‘Lost’: These Castmates Are Still Friends to This Day
Lost was full of drama for the survivors of the Oceanic Flight 815 on the mysterious island. They didn’t make a lot of friends on the TV show, but many of the cast members became lifelong friends. Nestor Carbonell only joined the show in season 3, but he still calls many of his co-stars friends to this day.
Carbonell spoke with Showbiz Cheat Sheet on Sept. 10 about his role in The Morning Show. We couldn’t resist asking about Lost, and finding out with whom from the island he keeps in touch.

The cast of Lost was too sprawling to cover all of them in one article. First, you had the survivors of the plain crash. Some of the main characters were Jack (Matthew Fox), Kate (Evangeline Lilly), Sawyer (Josh Holloway), Hurley (Jorge Garcia), Locke (Terry O’Quinn), Sun (Yunjin Kim), Jin (Daniel Dae Kim), Charlie (Dominic Monaghan), Sayid (Naveen Andrews), Michael (Harold Perrineau), and more.
In season 2, they met the survivors from the tail of the plane who crashed on another part of the island. But, the Oceanic survivors weren’t the only people on the island. Ben (Michael Emerson) led a group of remnants from the Dharma Initiative. Desmond (Henry Ian Cusick) lived in the Hatch until the survivors opened it.
Then there’s Richard Alpert (Carbonell). Alpert recruited people like Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell) to come to the island. Flashbacks revealed that Alpert stopped aging, so Carbonell appeared the same in different eras.

Lost filmed in Hawaii, so many of the cast members moved to the islands. They didn’t just work together, they lived together. Lost ended in 2010, but Carbonell still talks to these costars.
“Oh wow, a number of people,” Carbonell said. “Jorge Garcia, Ian Cusick and I talk very regularly. Michael Emerson to name a few. We were a pretty tight bunch there. I came into the show after the third season so I came in a bit later but I got to know a number of them pretty well living on the island, particularly the last season when I relocated my family there. But I stay in touch, Elizabeth Mitchell is another one. They’re tremendous, another great cast.”

With all the mysteries Lost raised, there was no way every fan was going to be satisfied by the ending. Count Carbonell satisfied by the conclusion.
“I feel very satisfied because for me, and I know there’s a lot of fans who had issues with the ending,” Carbonell said. “I was there for the emotional ride so I was very satiated by the end of it but I understand people who were there on a different ride, how they might’ve wanted something different in the end.”
Lost had a rabid fan base with online forums commenting on every episode, and well after the ending. It ended even before social media really took off. In the decade since Lost ended, Carbonell continues to hear complaints, but it doesn’t get to him.
“Believe me, I’ve heard it all and it’s fair game,” Carbonell said. “That’s fine. The medium is a subjective medium. I was personally very satisfied because I was on it more for an emotional ride as I was in terms of the specifics of every point that was raised or every plot point or every scientific element that was raised.”
