It was “so far, so great” with this original comedy series starring Demi Lovato. Even though Sonny With a Chance eventually became So Random, some Disney Channel viewers hoped for more. Primarily, those fans of Chad Dylan Cooper asked for a Mackenzie Falls spin-off series.

‘Mackenzie Falls’ was the drama series that Disney Channel needed

If you’re looking for a laugh, look no further than So Random, the show within a show on Disney Channel’s Sonny With a Chance. If you’re looking to cry, though, just a few steps away from the set of So Random was the fictional drama series Mackenzie Falls, starring Chad Dylan Cooper (Sterling Knight.)

Although fans never got a full episode, they caught a glimpse into Mackenzie Falls very Sonny’s binge-watching and from Chad filming new episodes. There’s always something going on with Penelope and Mackenzie choosing between his head and his heart.

There’s plenty of twists, turns, and surprises, which is why it always beat So Random at award shows. With so much drama, some wondered why the series never made it to Disney’s television network.

There is a ‘Sonny With a Chance’ spin-off featuring the cast of ‘So Random’

So Random featured a number of characters from Disney’s original comedy series, this time, in their actual sketch comedy show. This “show within a show” featured actors playing a number of different roles, even appearing alongside guest stars like Justin Bieber, Greyson Chance, and Hot Chelle Rae.

The spin-off only lasted for one season, and didn’t really address Sonny Munroe’s exit from the cast. Sterling Knight, somehow, joined the cast of So Random for this spin-off series, even though his character infamously hated the rival show. The actor even went on to star in his own Disney Channel original movie, titled Starstruck

There were plenty of other popular teen dramas at the time, including ‘Degrassi’

If other television networks could create teen-skewing drama shows, some figured Disney Channel could, potentially, do the same. Some viewers even shared their love and support for this fictional series, its characters, and the Chad-Sonny drama.

“Cinematic genius that’s what it was,” one Twitter user said of the movie Starstruck. “And I stand by my statement that Mackenzie Falls deserved its own show on Disney!”

“I can remember screaming my head off when I found out their ship was a possibility. The overlord of Mackenzie Falls with the Queen of the ever so cringy So Random Chile sign me… up,” another Twitter user wrote.

Episodes of Sonny With a Chance and So Random are available for binge-watching on Disney’s streaming platform, as is the movie Starstruck. To learn more about Disney+ and to subscribe, visit their website
