Mariah Carey is allegedly no longer working with Jay-Z and Roc Nation. The split is reportedly less than amicable, coming after a contentious meeting regarding the future of Carey’s career. If the news is true, this will be Carey’s second time switching management teams within five years.
Mariah Carey signed with Roc Nation in 2017
Carey first signed with Roc Nation in November 2017. Since signing with the management group, she’s released her 30th anniversary album The Rarities – as well as her New York Times bestselling memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey.
Other major deals include her Apple TV for a holiday special. Carey also reached No. 1 in the UK with All I Want For Christmas 26 years after its release.
Carey signed with Roc Nation post her split from her longtime manager, Stella Bulochnikov. In a statement released by Carey and Bulochnikov, the two told media outlets:
After working together for almost three years, Mariah Carey and Stella Bulochnikov have determined that it is in their mutual best interest to part ways on day-to-day management. During their time working together, they have accomplished great things, including, most recently, Mariah Carey’s new music and motion picture projects for this upcoming holiday season. Mariah Carey and Stella Bulochnikov remain partners in a number of business ventures, and will continue to support each other in those endeavors.”
The singer reportedly got into a heated argument with Jay-Z, leading to her departure from Roc Nation
The U.S. Sun exclusively reports that Carey and Jay-Z met to discuss her next project. Carey is said to be prepping her next album and world tour. The pair erupted in a meeting about the future of Mariah’s career that sparked her decision to walk.
A source close to the situation tells the Sun, “Mariah and Jay had an explosive meeting which did not go well at all,” they claim. “She has made it clear she wants nothing more to do with him and has called it quits with Roc Nation. She will formally depart in the next few weeks.”
It’s unclear what was said between the two that made the conversation go left to the point of Carey’s exit. The source says the situation is unfortunate due to the two previously having a great relationship.
“It is a shame because they had done some great work in the last few years,” the source says. “But this meeting couldn’t have gone much worse.”
The report notes that Carey is already looking toward the future without Roc Nation Management.
“Mariah has been talking to other managers and thinks she has found someone who she feels has full belief in her as she takes her next steps,” they say. “There is a heavily R&B- influenced album being finalised at the moment and she is planning a world tour for next year, so she isn’t letting this stand in her way.”
Though no formal announcement has been made about Carey’s alleged departure, she’s already been removed from Roc Nation’s website on their list of acts. The singer has already been removed from the list of acts that are represented by the company.
