Married at First Sight returns July 15. This season, five all-new couples will take the plunge and say “I do” to a complete stranger. And if the new season is anything like past ones, there will be plenty of drama between the just-married couples as they get to know each other before Decision Day. But one MAFS alum hopes the show dials down the theatrics in the upcoming episodes.

AJ Vollmoeller wants ‘less drama’ on this season of ‘Married at First Sight’

AJ Vollmoeller was on Married at First Sight Season 8, where the experts matched him with Stephanie Sersen. Their union is one of the rare MAFS pairings that has stood the test of time. The couple — who appear on Married at First Sight: Couples Cam — is still together more than a year after getting married.

Vollmoeller knows what it’s like to turn to a trio of relationship experts for help finding love. He hopes the next season of the Lifetime reality show keeps the focus on why people are really there: to find a life partner, not stir up controversy.

“Who’s ready for more love and less drama than there has been the past few seasons?? I know I am,” he commented on June 29 post from the show’s official Instagram account.

Another MAFS alum agreed with Vollmoeller. Jamie Otis, who married her husband Doug Hehner during the first season of the show, responded to his comment with a single word: “Yassss.”

Some ‘Married at First Sight’ fans agree with Vollmoeller

Vollmoeller isn’t alone in his wish for less drama. Several fans of the show commented that the matchups in recent seasons have been particularly disastrous.

By the time the Married at First Sight Season 10 reunion special aired, only one couple out of five was still together. That season was also marked by some explosive moments, including Derek’s reunion special revelation that Katie had cheated on him, Brandon’s arguments with the show’s crew, and Michael’s lies about his career

Season 9 couple Matt and Amber also crashed and burned in a spectacular fashion. Though the couple agreed to split, they’re not yet divorced, they revealed during a recent Married at First Sight: Where Are They Now? special. Amber said Matt refused to sign a separation agreement. When she pressured him to do so on-air, he said he didn’t want to sign any papers without a lawyer present. Another season 9 couple, Luke and Amber, were a major trainwreck, with Amber questioning her husband’s sexuality during their honeymoon.

“Between Luke and Kate, Matt and Amber, all the AWFUL matchups on season 10, it feels like the FAILS are the goal…cashing in on drama. I’m not a fan of reality TV dysfunction,” one person wrote.

Perhaps the upcoming MAFS matchups will be a bit more successful than in recent installments. Find out yourself when Married at First Sight Season 11 premieres Wednesday, July 15 at 8/7c on Lifetime.
