Chris Williams and Paige Banks have attracted no shortage of controversy during their brief time so far on Lifetime’s Married at First Sight Season 12. After announcing he wasn’t “fully attracted” to Paige shortly after they tied the knot – but not before having sex with her twice – he dropped another bombshell, revealing that his ex-fiancée, Mercedes, was six weeks pregnant.

On the most recent episode of Married at First Sight, Chris sat down with Mercedes and Paige for an awkward conversation about their predicament. But before his uncomfortable discussion with his baby’s mother and his wife, Chris’ friends (his spiritual adviser, Pastor Dwight, and another close friend, Mikael) warned the Married at First Sight star to be careful about letting go of Paige too soon.

Chris said he ‘wasn’t fully attracted’ to Paige as soon as she walked down the aisle

Sitting down with his pastor and friend for a heart-to-heart about his marriage so far, Chris admitted that he simply hadn’t been attracted to his wife from the start. In fact, his lack of attraction began as soon as she turned the corner and walked down the aisle on their wedding day.

The Married at First Sight star told them bluntly, “To be honest with you, when she came down the aisle, it was awkward for me standing at the altar. I wasn’t fully attracted to her.”

As for why he slept with Paige despite his lack of physical attraction to her, Chris claimed he wanted to see he could “magically become attracted to her” through the act of sex. But in the end, he confessed, “it didn’t happen.”

“I figured sex makes you one,” Chris said, adding that “it intertwines two souls.”

The ‘Married at First Sight’ star’s pastor reminded him of the vows he took

Chris’ pastor had some straightforward advice for his friend – namely, to think hard before getting a divorce.

“I think you were moving in the right direction in terms of marrying Paige,” he argued, adding that he didn’t want Chris to “risk losing” such a great woman. He went on to point out Paige’s many assets, like her commitment to “faith, family, and education,” as well as her moral values.

“You have currently a diamond,” the pastor said. “Those are rare.”

He also reminded the Married at First Sight star that he had a moral and spiritual obligation to Paige. He took vows and made promises, Pastor Dwight pointed out, and those shouldn’t be thrown away because of a superficial concern about her body (or even his ex’s unexpected pregnancy).

“You went before God and said, ‘God, I’ma make a covenant with this woman, and until death do us part,’” Chris’ pastor declared. “So ‘wife’ now trumps whoever you were with before.”

Chris tells his friends his mind is made up

As for Chris’ friend Mikael, he wholeheartedly agreed with his pastor’s sentiment. He told Married at First Sight producers he didn’t understand why Chris and Paige weren’t a perfect match.

“Chris hit it big,” Mikael said. He argued that a breakup between Paige and Chris would be a “very premature move” and “selfish” on his part, as well as “embarrassing” to both his family and hers.

At first, Chris seemed to be willing to engage with his friends. He claimed that he wanted to focus on his responsibilities as a father rather than as a husband for now. But when it became clear that they weren’t going to take his side when it came to the issue of divorce, he visibly tuned them out and began to scroll through his phone.

“With all due respect, I’m really done with the conversation,” the Married at First Sight star said, making it clear his mind was made up about leaving Paige. “I’m done. I’m really done.”
