Erik Lake and Virginia Coombs hit it off right away on their wedding night on Lifetime’s Married at First Sight Season 12 in Atlanta. But Erik, 34, and Virginia, 26, soon found that they had many areas of disagreement – from Virginia’s reluctance to have kids to Erik’s jealousy over her guy friends and their very different political opinions.

In Newsweek’s sneak peek of the upcoming Mar. 31 episode of Married at First Sight, Erik and Virginia found yet another area of contention: Virginia’s dog, Rocky.

Erik and Virginia argued bitterly over her dog’s behavior

In a new Married at First Sight preview, Erik and Virginia compared their two dogs while resting in bed together. Erik kicked off the tense conversation by suggesting that his dog was much more obedient than Rocky.

“It’s crazy how our personalities are really similar to our dogs,” he began tentatively, adding that his dog never did things like run away or fail to listen.

But when Virginia defended her level of commitment as a dog owner, Erik insisted that Rocky needed more discipline.

“I love Rocky,” Erik assured Virginia, who didn’t look at all happy about her husband’s comments. “I love him to death, but he needs a certain amount of me being firm with him. You know, my military background and all those kinds of things. I don’t like his manners where he’s biting people. I hate that.”

“Well, he’s not your dog,” Virginia retorted.

Erik jumped to an ultimatum of sorts when it came to Rocky’s behavior.

“Well, he’s half-mine now, whether you like it or not,” Erik pointed out. “Unless you wanna end this right now. I feel like he comes between us and our relationship.”

Virginia looked baffled by the conversation’s sudden escalation. Sitting up in bed, she decided to head outside alone with Rocky.

“I’m over this, to be honest,” the Married at First Sight star told her husband. “You’re bringing up s**t that’s only going to cause a fight.”

In turn, Erik seemed confused by Virginia’s departure.

“I have no clue what’s going on right now. I mean, it’s just a dog,” he argued, adding that he thought Virginia was “freaking out” for no reason.

Virginia said she was ready to ‘run’ from Erik

When Married at First Sight producers spoke to Virginia outside, it was clear that the issues between Virginia and Erik were deeper than a dog running away when he wasn’t leashed. Virginia explained that it felt like Erik was trying to take something away from her that really mattered in her life.

“I was f*cking depressed when I got Rocky,” she explained while crying. “And he saved me, and that’s why we’re so close. And I’ve told him that. I just don’t want to do any of this right now. We had a huge fight last night. We’re not in a good place at all.”

Virginia revealed that she and Erik had gotten into it at a local bar just the night before. And right now, she was not feeling her husband one bit.

“Honestly, at this exact moment, I want to run—from him, from everything,” Virginia sobbed. “I’m just so f*cking over all of it. Like, truly, I am.”
