Married at First Sight lauds itself for employing matchmaking professionals to get together prospective couples who otherwise have no relationship or real knowledge of each other. And so far, it seems like they’ve nailed it with Bennett and Amelia. The two seem to be equally quirky in complementary ways. But while Bennett and Amelia may be enjoying it, it seems as if some fans are feeling turned off from the couple.

Who are Amelia and Bennett?

Amelia and Bennett are one of the new couples introduced on Season 11 of Lifetime’s Married at First Sight.

According to Lifetime’s bios for the two, Bennett has been through a run of tough relationships that inspired him to go on the show. “Bennett, 28, grew up in Montvale, New Jersey and is the artistic director of a theatre company. Bennett has sought a life partner for years but has been through a string of bad relationships and is deeply encouraged by Married At First Sight‘s history of success with past couples,” Lifetime reports.

As for Amelia, Lifetime explains, “Amelia, 27, was raised in Richmond, Virginia. With a doctor for a mother, Amelia always thought she would follow in her footsteps and is currently completing her medical residency. Amelia subscribes to the idea that “you can fall in love with anyone-ish,” and much like her grandparent’s arranged marriage, she really thinks it’s possible to learn to love someone. She loves social experiments and Married at First Sight is the perfect one for her.”

The two both seem to be somewhat quirky, and while fans were at first charmed by them, some are beginning to feel it might be a little too much to handle.

Fans aren’t into Bennett’s socks

Married at First Sight fans were shocked by some of Amelia and Bennett’s wedding choices. For Bennett, fans were put off by his decision to wear seemingly unwashed tube socks to his own wedding.

One Redditor pointed out, “I like Bennett, he has great energy and I would love to hang out with him. However, I think the sock incident highlights how quirkiness can end up being exhausting. Yes, it is cute at first, but the scatter brain can be very distressing when dealing with everyday family life. There is a men’s clothing store within 2 blocks of NOPSI hotel where he was staying at, he could have solved the issue within 5 minutes.”

“That’s exactly it! He feels incredibly endearing at first glance, in large part to his quirkiness. But for me, it’s the scene with his mother that underscores how he may, in his personal life, not know how to take care of himself in a mature way. His ‘couldn’t be bothered’ reaction to dressing nice for himself or his wife on such a special day, is sayin a lot,” added another user.

“Kind of shocked he didn’t have socks. When my hubby and the rest of the groomsmen went to rent their gear the salesperson made sure everything was in their bags. Someone could have gone and gotten him socks, it’s not like the wedding was being held in the stix somewhere. Sorry but both Bennett and his bride look like they could use a good scrubbing,” joked another fan.

Meanwhile, Amelia wasn’t winning over too many fans with her bird’s nest either. The Married at First Sight star wore an ornamental bird’s nest in her hair for their wedding.

One Redditor simply remarked of the choice, “She’s a walking episode of Portlandia.”

Another fan of the show claims it has symbolic meaning. They wrote, “The bird nest is supposed to be a good omen. An ending to misfortune and a beginning to prosperity.”

“Both he and Amelia exhaust me. It’s like they both try soooo hard to be ‘different’.’ They are both into the performance, which is fine in a creative discipline, but a doctor?!?! A unicycle and fringed scarves on your heads – to each their own, I guess,” added another commenter.
