While gamers are waiting for the arrival of the PS5 console and the accompanying Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales game, there is reason to be excited for a different Sony release.

For months, there’s been hype around the upcoming Iron Man game for the PlayStation VR. Cosplay is cool, but who wants to pass up the chance to be an airborne Iron Man in a Marvel virtual reality environment? Exactly.

It’s your time to say “I am Iron Man” or some of Tony Stark’s more colorful one-liners as you suit up to play the Marvel superhero. So, what can players expect?

‘Iron Man’ VR demo is turning people into believers

PlayStation dropped a demo version in May in anticipation of the game’s release, and it’s still earning rave reviews. Fly! Aim! Shoot! In addition to soaring through the air, players will get to go on rescue missions and come face-to-face with other Marvel characters such as Nick Fury and Pepper Potts.

Other than some concerns about motion sickness and easy use of the controls, many demo reviews paint an optimistic picture.

On Reddit, one user wrote “You really feel like Iron Man. I enjoyed it. The sound design was fantastic. Tracking was great. Flying was a bit clumsy, but i’m sure you can improve with practice. It took me a while to realize there was a stop button – that was handy.”

Another added, “I thought it was awesome. Definitely be picking it up.” Peep the demo from PlayStation below.

Marvel’s Iron Man’ creators built in special features

According to a blog post from one of the game’s developers, you’ll also be able to do other Tony Stark activities.

Camouflaj (the developers behind the game) producer Aaron Whiting wrote that Iron Man VR will enable players to “Explore classic Iron Man environments including Tony’s Malibu mansion, a S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, ROXXON Corporation, and various Stark Industries locales.”

There is also opportunity to hang out in Tony’s garage and put your inventor’s cap on.

Another surprise? There’s a special AI character called “AI Tony” who’s a reflection of Iron Man. Per Whiting, “He’s smart, witty, and helps you upgrade your suit.” When he tested the game out, he couldn’t stop talking about how there’s an entire story woven into this VR game.

Putting on your headset and operating your controllers will feel like you are really Tony Stark. Unfortunately, there won’t be any quick-witted voiceovers from Robert Downey Jr. Keep wishing.

‘Iron Man’ VR game received new release date

Initially, the Iron Man game bundle was supposed to drop in May, but due to COVID-19, the release was postponed. The new date is July 3, and the VR bundle retails for $349.99. Sony and the creators at Camouflaj can’t wait for players to “suit up” in the famous armor, save lives, and battle Iron Man’s adversaries.

For those wondering if the new PS5 will be compatible with this, the answer is yes. You can rock the same VR headset with the new console that’s set to arrive later this year.

For Marvel’s Iron Man VR, pre-order is still available for the adventure game or you can simply start your own countdown to July 3.
