Even though it seems like it nowadays, not every superhero can get his or her own movie. Some heroes are perhaps even better suited to television. And initially, the Marvel Cinematic Universe seemed able to balance both.

Of course, the Marvel Netflix experiment ultimately fell apart, paving the way for the upcoming Disney+ shows. But does this mean characters from shows such as Daredevil and Jessica Jones will be recast?

One particularly beloved star has some thoughts on possibly being replaced.

Marvel fans love Vincent D’Onofrio’s version of Kingpin

While Charlie Cox delivers a compelling version of Matt Murdock, the true standout on Daredevil, most fans agree, is Vincent D’Onofrio. Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin emerged as not only a chilling villain but also one fans could empathize with. During the show’s three-season run, D’Onofrio’s Kingpin emerged as one of the most popular MCU villains.

While technically part of the MCU, Daredevil and the other Marvel Netflix shows never really felt connected to the movies. For years, the TV and movie divisions of Marvel had separate leadership. But now Marvel Studios has jurisdiction over both, leaving the Netflix characters with a chance of a second life.

The future of the ‘Daredevil’ villain is uncertain right now

According to Marvel’s deal with Netflix, the rights to each series will revert back two years after each show’s cancelation. For Daredevil, that means Marvel Studios will have free rein with characters such as Daredevil and Kingpin in late 2020. Despite D’Onofrio and other actors’ willingness to return, some fans fear the MCU will opt for a complete reboot.

If this does indeed happen, then a new Kingpin could be on the way. In July 2020, professional wrestler Big Show put his name in the ring for the next Wilson Fisk. He already has a few film credits to his name and certainly has the right build for Kingpin. Big Show even praised how Josh Brolin’s brawny Thanos tapped into the complexities of the character.

Vincent D’Onofrio has a great attitude about maybe losing the role

D’Onofrio’s Kingpin easily stands as one of the most widely praised Marvel villains in recent years. But rather than getting defensive at Big Show’s desire to play the character, D’Onofrio had a surprisingly supportive response, according to ComicBook.com.

I think I would just say this. I believe in actors, and I believe an actor should have a shot at whatever they want to try and do. That’s what I think. If that guy wants to play Kingpin, then f**king go after Kingpin. Give it your all. That’s what I would say. That’s what I would hope he would say to me too. I think it’s awesome that he’s even saying the things he’s saying. I think it’s ambitious, and it’s a good attitude to have.

Marvel Studios likely won’t make any announcements regarding Kingpin until after the Netflix deal expires. So fans will have to wait and see if the MCU reintroduces D’Onofrio’s Kingpin or goes in another direction. The villain has a history with multiple heroes. So he could conceivably appear in multiple projects going forward, no matter who plays him.
