Marvel teases ‘A-Force’ in ‘Avengers: Endgame’

Marvel has not said anything about its rumored A-Force movie but the studio did tease the group of superheroes in Endgame.

During the climactic battle against Thanos (Josh Brolin), a team of female superheroes, including Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Shuri (Letitia Wright), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Rescue (Gwyneth Paltrow), Okoye (Danai Gurira), Nebula (Karen Gillan), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), and The Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), came together to help Captain Marvel get rid of the Infinity Stone gauntlet.

This was the first time Marvel has teased the A-Force and fans are convinced that the studio is gearing up to showcase the team in a future stand-alone project.

Unfortunately, Marvel did not announce the A-Force film when it debuted all of its Phase 4 projects last summer. This likely means that the group will not join the Marvel Cinematic Universe until Phase 5 or beyond.

The good news is that this gives Marvel plenty of time to flush out the characters more and add a few new faces to the mix. With the studio introducing a bunch of new superheroes in Phase 4, it certainly has plenty of options.

This is how the all-female Avengers team formed

For those who have not read the comics, the A-Force is a relatively new team for Marvel. The group was first introduced in the Secret Wars storyline before they got their own series (which was short-lived).

Although the group has not been around for decades, the all-female Avengers squad has left its mark in the Marvel comics. In fact, the team’s popularity is why the studio decided to include them in Endgame in the first place.

When they first arrived in the comics, Doctor Doom had built a world in an alternate reality called Battleworld, where he forced various superheroes to fight it out. The A-Force lived in a realm called Arcadia, where women were the leaders instead of men.

Some of the characters that were featured in the A-Force comics include She-Hulk, Captain Marvel, Medusa, America Chavez, a female Loki, and Nico Minoru.

Some of these characters, such as She-Hulk, have not been introduced in the MCU but will be getting their own television series on Disney+. Depending on what Marvel has planned, the studio could use its upcoming TV shows to introduce more female characters, who will eventually make their way to the A-Force movie.

Captain Marvel has reportedly been replaced as the ‘A-Force’ leader

While we wait to see what Marvel has planned, a source told We Got This Covered that the studio wants to replace Captain Marvel as the leader of the A-Force.

The insider claims that the studio wants She-Hulk to lead the new team of Avengers instead of Captain Marvel. This lines up with the prominent role She-Hulk had in the comics and allows other characters to enjoy some time in the spotlight.

Marvel, of course, has not confirmed any of the reports surrounding the rumored A-Force film. With the movie still a few years away from development, a lot could change between now and then.

In the meantime, Marvel is planning on releasing She-Hulk on Disney+ at some point in 2022. Filming for the project has not started, though the studio has kicked off the casting process.

Captain Marvel 2, meanwhile, is now set to premiere in theaters in July of 2022. The studio pushed back all of its Phase 4 projects due to the coronavirus pandemic.
