Gemma Chan played Sersi in Marvel’s ‘Eternals’

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has described Sersi, played by Gemma Chan, as the main character of Eternals, despite there being nine other superheroes in the movie. And after seeing the film, it’s easy to see why she’s the lead.

Throughout Eternals, it’s clear that all Sersi wants to do is help humans. From the moment she and the rest of the Eternals arrived on Earth to protect its people from the Deviants, she has been enthralled by them. And that’s why Ajak chooses her as the leader of the Eternals following Ajak’s death. Sersi’s power is to manipulate and transform matter through physical contact, but her real strength is her ability to empathize.

In the movie, Sersi and Ikaris fall in love while fighting the Deviants. However, they later go their separate ways. In the present day, Sersi works as a museum curator in London and is dating Dane Whitman. Once the Eternals reunite, they learn that their true purpose was to get Earth ready for the “Emergence,” which is the birth of a new Celestial that would wipe out all humans. So, the Eternals, led by Sersi, agreed to stop it. However, Ikaris betrays her.

In the end, Sersi convinces Ikaris not to stop them from preventing the “Emergence,” and they save the world. Due to his guilt, Ikaris flies into the sun, dying instantly. Later, the Celestial, Arishem, drags Sersi, Phastos, and Kingo into space. He tells them that if their memories prove that humans are worth saving, he will spare their lives and humanity. Hopefully, Arishem will let them live so that fans can see Gemma Chan as Sersi again after Eternals.

The actor posts behind-the-scenes pictures from the MCU film to celebrate its Disney+ release

Gemma Chan published photos from the Eternals film set on her Twitter page, which mostly feature the cast in their costumes having fun. Notably, one of the pictures depicts Chan and Harry Styles in their costumes, even though their characters never shared the screen in the movie.

The post also includes pictures with her longtime friend Richard Madden, who played Ikaris in Eternals, and a shot of Chan walking on rocks as Sersi.

Hopefully, now that most of the world has the chance to see Eternals, Gemma Chan and the rest of the cast will post more behind-the-scenes photos from the movie set.
