Matthew Morrison and his wife, Renee Puente, married in 2014. According to In Touch, the Tony Award nominee, the two first met at a Grammy Awards party in 2011. Morrison said he heard her speaking pidgin, or Hawaiian slang, and that’s what caused him to pause.
“I sang backup for a guy named Don Ho in high school and spent summers in Hawaii,” he told The New York Post a year after their marriage in 2015. “So, when I heard her speak, I said, ‘Howzit, sistah?’ and she laughed. The rest is history.”
In Touch notes Puente was born in Hawaii to a single mother, and her heritage and culture heavily influenced her future. She has a career in modeling, music, and acting. She acted in the film Divergent and modeled for Bebe and Calvin Klein.
Morrison and Puente married in Hawaii after three years of dating and an additional 15-month engagement.

Matthew Morrison and his wife, Renee Puente, have two kids together. Revel James Makai Morrison was born in 2017, and Phoenix Monroe Morrison was born in 2021. Puente noted Phoenix would be her “last” child, according to Us Weekly.
The couple was over the moon to welcome Phoenix after going through a prior miscarriage. Puente experienced pregnancy loss in 2020, and she posted about it online. “Matthew and I have been so intentionally trying to get pregnant and calling our child … I’m trying to call in my child that I know is waiting for us,” she wrote. ” … And so on our second cycle of calling this child in, we got pregnant. And it was among just such extraordinary intention and love. I miscarried.”
It seems parenthood — and loss — brought the couple together. “Seeing her come into her power as a woman has been, I think, transformational for our whole family,” Morrison told People after Phoenix’s birth. “She is such a leader and really just creating these movements and stuff with her speaking and really trying to empower other women and talking about things that a lot of women go through but are scared to talk about it, like miscarriage.”
It’s unclear how his ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ firing will affect his family
Matthew Morrison was fired from So You Think You Can Dance due to misconduct. According to People, Morrison “had an inappropriate relationship with a female contestant.”
“They didn’t have sex, but he reached out to her through flirty direct messages on social media,” a source told the publication. “She felt uncomfortable with his line of comments and went to producers, who then got Fox involved. He was fired after they did their own investigation.”
It’s unclear if Matthew Morrison’s wife will respond publicly to the news.
