Leave it to celebrity Food Network host Guy Fieri to come up with a totally bizarre food combination. The 53-year-old host of network favorites Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives and Guy’s Grocery Games is known for thinking outside the box when it comes to culinary creations. But this might be one of the weirdest culinary creations yet.

Fieri presented his idea for combining a hot dog with apple pie in partnership with Chevrolet and Major League Baseball. While the mash-up sounds gross at first, there is something oddly appealing to the salty-sweet combo. Here’s what’s in it and where to get it.

Hot dogs, apple pie, and baseball are all classic symbols of Americana, which is how the opportunity came up for the Food Network host in the first place. Fieri was approached by Chevrolet to honor a song from one of their commercials that included the lyrics, “Baseball, Hot Dogs, Apple Pie, and Chevrolet,” Delish reported.

There’s no indication that the songwriter intended for the apple pie and hot dog to join forces. But ad execs liked the idea of causing a stir, which is why they had Fieri dream up that one-of-a-kind combo. The Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives alum delivered, and his Apple Pie Hot Dog will be available on Aug. 12 only at the MLB Field of Dreams in Iowa during a Yankees — White Sox game.

The Food Network star worked hard to make a recipe that was both gourmet and accessible for anyone attending a baseball game.

Fieri discussed how he came up with the recipe. “It’s got to be a really good hot dog, and it’s got to be a pie crust: it can’t be phyllo dough or a biscuit. We’re going to treat the apple pie as more of a condiment, like a relish. Then we’ll add some bacon jam in there, and a sweet-and-savory mustard,” he told Food & Wine.

While at first glance an Apple Pie Hot Dog sounds sort of gross, the resulting treat sounds delicious. Fieri uses bacon jam, apple pie filling, and an egg wash to make this unique hot dog taste so good. He sprinkles the whole thing with sugar and pie spice then squirts a pie filling/mustard combo on top. Somehow, the salty and sweet flavors work well together.

The Food Network host isn’t afraid to experiment with weird food

Anyone who’s watched an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives knows that Fieri enjoys sampling unique dishes from all over the country. This Apple Pie Hot Dog is just the latest in a long line of strange food combos he’s sampled.

Grasshopper tacos? He ate them in Miami Beach. Dinner cannoli? Fieri gave that a whirl in Colorado. Since chefs always want the show host to taste their signature dishes, it’s led to some wild collaborations for the Triple D host to enjoy.

This means eating an Apple Pie Hot Dog is just another day in the life of Guy Fieri.
