Marvel Studios has developed quite a signature approach to its superhero-themed cinematic spectacles: humor sprinkled in during dire circumstances plus some heartfelt companionship and interweaving plotlines equal MCU success. While DC sometimes goes for humor — Shazam! — several of the DCEU’s most famous films remain darker in nature, as is The Dark Knight.

Based on Marvel’s track record and its endless list of box office triumphs, it should come as no surprise that the studio plans to stick to the formula that works, even with the new characters gained from the Disney/Fox merger. Ever since Disney seized the rights to the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, questions and theories surrounding Wolverine, Doctor Doom, Mr. Fantastic and more have been at the center of Marvel enthusiasts’ conversations.

While all signs point to a Fantastic Four movie occurring somewhere in the distant future — and maybe in a galaxy far far away — Kevin Feige has already begun to lay the groundwork for such ventures. The man is always a few phases ahead; with phase four virtually set in motion, it’s time to discuss phases 5 and 6, and the introduction of the previously butchered Fantastic Four.

While conversations have likely remained within Marvel’s four walls, discussions surrounding casting for the Fantastic Four have already taken place; insider reports from We Got This Covered reveal that two famous comedians are being eyed to play The Thing. So, let’s get to the bottom of the leak.

What we know about the actors pegged for The Thing in the MCU’s ‘Fantastic Four’

While fans may be worried about the future of the X-Men, as many possess loyalties to the characters and stories already told, most people are excited for Marvel’s Fantastic Four, as the previous iterations have been, to put it nicely, subpar. So, can a comedian as The Thing save this franchise from its usual lack of flair and predictable plot?

According to We Got This Covered, both Jonah Hill and Seth Rogen are on Marvel’s wishlist for The Thing. As for credibility, the same source who told the outlet that Tom Welling was returning for “Crisis on Infinite Earths” and that a She-Hulk show was in development leaked the news surrounding Jonah Hill.

As for the Seth Rogen rumor, this one comes from the guy who knew Ewan McGregor would return as Obi-Wan in Star Wars and that Robert Pattison was locked in to play Batman in the upcoming iteration (focusing on the Bat’s detective past). Both leakers have proved credible in the past, so we have reason to believe that these two names are likely high up on the list.

Even if the honor fails to reach Rogen or Hill, based on these two choices, it’s clear that Marvel is committed to placing a funny man in the role, which could work quite well. While Johnny Storm has been given the funny man role in past cinematic ventures, this new spin could prove interesting and work to separate the MCU’s take from previous approaches.
