Once she released her collection with Fashion Nova, Megan’s fans immediately wanted to get their hands on some of the items. According to Billboard, the line consists of faux zebra, leopard, and python-print staples that fit the rapper’s aesthetic. In a statement, Megan says the line is a “labor of love.” She also claims she wants her clothes to “fit bodies of all shapes, sizes, and heights.” Megan’s line became an instant success, earning $1.2 million within its first day of launch, per TMZ

Soon after the collection surfaced, a designer named Aazhia accused Megan of using one of her designs. In an Instagram post, Aazhia posted a side-by-side image of a dress she created and also posted one that Megan used in her collection. Aazhia also screenshotted a message in which someone on Megan’s team allegedly asked Aazhia for a dress.

“IMA BREAK THIS DOWN REAL SIMPLE! MY DRESS WAS STOLEN AND USED IN THIS MEGAN X FN COLLAB! WAS I TOLD? NO! WAS I COMPENSATED? NO!” Aazhia claimed in her caption. “I’M VERY MUCH SO TAKEN BACK BY THE THE LACK OF RESPECT FOR ANOTHER BLACK WOMAN! THERE IS THIS TIRED NARRATIVE THAT THE BLAVK WOMAN IS SO DISRESPECTED, BUT WE DO IT TO EACH OTHER!!!!”

Megan Thee Stallion denies stealing a design for her Fashion Nova collection

Megan sat down with The Morning Hustle following the release of her collection. The show’s hosts asked the Good News rapper about a series of topics, including Aazhia’s allegations. During the interview, Megan says she wasn’t aware of the designer before her claims.

“A lot of times, people say that they talked to somebody from my team. I don’t know what year that was; I don’t know who, what are you talking about? And a lot of times, they won’t even bring me. They don’t tell me who they talking to,” Megan says on the show. “If I’ve probably never heard of you, like I’ve never seen that dress before. But it’s been a dress that has been done a lot, like over the years. So I feel bad that people’s initial reaction would be to just come at me like, ‘Oh, you a Black woman! You’re stealing from Black women!’ And I’m like, ‘Damn, hold on, sis, ’cause like, I don’t know you.'”

Although Megan denies stealing Aazhia’s designs for her collection with Fashion Nova, she believes the designer could’ve handled the situation differently. Without naming Aazhia directly, Megan says she wishes the designer found another way to get her attention. She also says if Aazhia inspired the dress, Megan would’ve compensated her before the collection dropped.

“It’s a way to come at people. ‘Cause if it would’ve been a real misunderstanding, I would’ve never had a problem saying, ‘I’m sorry, sis.’ I would have checked my stylist. Like you don’t do that. That’s not right,” Megan claims. “And then I would’ve had the dress taken down, whatever the money made from the dress, I would’ve gave the money to the girl if that was really something that she felt like was stolen from her.”
