Royal weddings are huge events for royal followers everywhere, with the brides’ wedding dresses often being the talk of town. Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s wedding in 2018 was no different. Her dress was admired by some people, though others also saw it as “ill-fitting” for a royal bride.

Interestingly, looking back on the Meghan’s wedding day, her dress might have been a strong predictor of her royal style in the months and years afterwards.

Meghan Markle’s wedding dress received a lot of criticism

As Meghan made her way to St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on May 19, 2018, many followers seemed to have divided opinions about her wedding dress.

As Harper’s Bazaar reported, Twitter exploded with users expressing their disappointment at the “ill-fitting” dress.

On the podcast Royally Obsessed, a commentator also criticized the wedding gown, which was designed by fashion house Givenchy.

“The tough one about this is, if she had seen the dress multiple times and had multiple fittings, it should have fit better,” writer Kailtin Menza said, according to Express.

Meghan Markle has also received criticism for her royal clothes being not properly fitted

However, the criticism about Meghan’s clothes did not stop at her wedding day. As Meghan began attending to her royal duties, her outfits constantly got criticized for not being properly fitted.

For example, the black Jason Wu dress she wore to the premiere of The Lion King in 2019 was seen as way too tight in the top portion of her body. The gray Roland Mouret dress she wore in Ireland in 2018 was disliked by royal followers for the way it improperly showed imprints of her bra. Meanwhile, Meghan’s nude Goat dress she wore to Prince Charles’ 70th birthday celebration at Buckingham Palace was criticized for seemingly being a size too big for her.

Additionally, fashion experts also note that the fabrics Meghan often chooses are prone to wrinkles. Not to mention, she has committed some faux pas such as leaving the price tag on her dress.

Meghan Markle has been known to style herself, unlike her sister-in-law

Perhaps the reason why Meghan had many moments of fashion “misses” as a royal is because she did not have a stylist. As reported by ELLE in 2019, Meghan styled herself frequently. She reportedly did her own hair and makeup as well.

“I was with her last month, and she was going on a public engagement. Harry and I were sitting with the dogs, and we were all chatty, and she’s painting her nails,” a source told People. “Except for her wedding, she does all her own makeup. Dresses herself, styles herself.”

Meanwhile, Meghan’s sister-in-law, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, has a stylist named Natasha Archer, who started out as her personal assistant. Having a extra pair of eyes on one’s clothes seems to make a big difference as Kate’s outfits often look fitted and flattering for her body type.

It’s not clear if Meghan’s fashion situation has changed since leaving the royal family, but she recently signed a deal with Netflix that could be worth as much as $100 million. With a high salary like this, it seems a stylist would most likely fit into her budget.
