Outlander is such a success for Starz that it’s about to enter reality. Reality TV, that is. Featuring fan-favorite actors from the epic romance series, Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish, Men in Kilts is a new travel series that will take viewers through the real-life Scottish highlands which featured so prominently in the show’s early seasons.

More literarily-inclined Outlander fans might notice something familiar about the series. Heughan and McTavish wrote a travel book about their experiences making the series and published it last year under the name Clanlands.

Now, Starz has revealed when fans can expect the series to premiere while also debuting the first trailer. Read on for more.

Over the course of the series, Heughan and McTavish will travel across Scotland using RVs, boats, motorcycles, and more. According to the companion book, they will begin in Glencoe near the banks of Loch Leven and travel to places like Inverness and the site of the Battle of Culloden, the latter of which plays a huge part in the story of Outlander.

Alongside the first trailer, Starz also revealed the premiere date for Men in Kilts, and it’s appropriately swoon-worthy. The first episode will drop on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, at 8:00 p.m. EST. It will ultimately run for eight episodes, which will be half an hour each.

This was roughly the same time of year that Outlander season 5 premiered in 2020, likely meaning that Men in Kilts is meant to tide over fans during the long wait for Season 6.

According to the trailer and the official synopsis, as shared by Collider, Heughan and McTavish will explore many facets of Scottish life and culture throughout the series. This includes whiskey, folk dancing, sheep herding, Highland games, clan history, and classic architecture, among many others. Sounds like everything an Outlander fan could want and more.

Due to a little thing known as the global COVID-19 pandemic, Outlander has been unable to ramp into filming Season 6 for the past year. While fans are used to arduous fallow periods known as “Droughtlander,” the prospect of not getting more episodes until 2022 might be too much for some to bear.

There has been some hope in recent weeks. In interviews, Heughan has stated that the cast has begun fittings for their Season 6 wardrobe and that scripts have been written. He’s also stated that the long delay has given the production plenty of time to consider how the show will be filmed under pandemic restrictions.

“We’ve had [costume] fittings, we’ve got scripts, we are getting there,” Heughan said. “It’s just such an epic show it’s taking a while to get there, but we will be back for season six.”

If filming kicks off in the next month or two, it’s very unlikely that Outlander will manage a return before the end of 2021. Fans might do best to assume the series won’t be back until next Valentine’s Day, at least.
