Meryl Streep often described as the best actor of her generation, is an acclaimed Academy Award and Golden Globe winner. She’s also one of the most beloved members of Hollywood, both by her peers and fans. She started acting in theater while attending Vassar College and quickly picked up an ability to memorize lines and mimic accents. Streep continued acting in Broadway and off-Broadway plays but never had the desire to work in film until she saw Taxi Driver. From there, she started auditioning for movie roles and became a successful actor known around the world. All her hard work and accolades paid off — Streep recently sold her Manhattan penthouse for a staggering price.

Streep’s prestigious career

Streep won three Oscars but was nominated for 21 — that’s more than any other actor. Her second ever film The Deer Hunter won Best Picture and marked Streep’s first Academy Award nomination. From there, she starred in Kramer vs. Kramer, The French Lieutenant’s Wife, and Sophie’s Choice — all films that gave her Academy Award nods.

She has always spoken out about the pay differential in women’s roles and how they decline as actors age. During the course of her career, she took on different roles — comedies, dramas, and even musicals, in an effort to stay relevant and portray a wide range of characters. For all her work and accolades, Celebrity Net Worth estimates her worth around $160 million. She’s consistently one of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood and is known for her tough negotiation tactics.

Real estate holdings

Throughout her career, Streep and husband Don Gummer have owned some pretty spectacular homes. According to Closer Weekly, Streep’s California property in Pasadena rests on two acres of land with views of the San Gabriel Mountains. The couple purchased the home in 2017 for $3.6 million, and it’s one of their main West Coast locations. With three bedrooms and three bathrooms, the house features an open living floorplan with high ceilings and breathtaking views.

Streep and Gummer mainly live in their Salisbury, Connecticut property per Velvet Ropes. They like to stay far away from the Hollywood spotlight. That home sits on 90 acres and is very private, complete with a 20-acre lake. The pair purchased the home years ago for $1.8 million. The star always kept a residence in New York City for work or entertainment purposes, but her main family home was always the quiet, secluded house in Connecticut.

Streep’s posh apartment originally went on the market in 2018 for $24.6 million, according to People but didn’t end up selling until recently for $15.8 million. The 4,000 square foot apartment features tons of natural light, four bedrooms, and four and a half bathrooms. It spans the entire top floor with incredible views of the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building. It also has plenty of outdoor space, including a 10 ft wide terrace perfect for entertaining or enjoying the sights.

Sotheby’s International Realty eventually sold the property, even though it was almost $10 million below the asking price. People reports Streep and Gummer bought the penthouse for $10.13 million back in 2006. She isn’t the first celebrity to make her home in one of the River Loft condos. Gwyneth Paltrow is another famous actor that lived there at some point. With her start in the theater and Broadway, it’s no wonder that Streep had an NYC home. Whether she was looking to catch a show or stay in the city for work purposes, her luxurious condo surely fit the bill.
