Considered an acting GOAT, Meryl Streep is known for her incredible decades-long career that includes notable roles in Sophie’s Choice, Kramer vs. Kramer, Out of Africa, The Devil Wears Prada, Mamma Mia!, and The Iron Lady among others. The New Jersey native holds the record for most Academy Award nominations (21) and most Golden Globe nominations (32). Streep has won three Oscars and eight Golden Globes in total. She also received the 2014 presidential Medal of Freedom, 2010 National Medal of Arts, and 2004 AFI Life Achievement Award.

Born to an artist and pharmaceutical executive in 1949, Streep became seriously interested in acting while studying at Vassar College. She later received her MFA from Yale. Before her breakout role in The Deer Hunter with Robert DeNiro, Streep spent there years in theater.
