There are a few super-smart members in this extended, Modern Family. One adopted member of the Tucker-Pritchett family even skipped a grade — Mitch and Cam’s daughter, Lily.

Here’s what we know about this character from ABC’s comedy series.

Lily skipped a grade on ‘Modern Family’

Fans met this character when she was just a baby. As she grew, though, Modern Family fans caught a glimpse into Lily’s school days. When Lily is in second grade, Mitch and Cam assume that her teacher, Mrs. Plank, (or as Cam likes to call her, Mrs. Crank,) is stressing her out.

After switching her into Ms. Sparrow’s class, Lily protests, saying that the kids in that class don’t learn anything. A few years later, Lily is invited to skip a grade after scoring higher than the peers in her class.

Lily isn’t the only smart member of this extended family, though. Mitch studied at Cornell University and Columbia University, where he practiced law and graduated at the top of his class.

Of course, the middle Dunphy child, Alex, was the valedictorian of her middle school and the co-valedictorian of her high school. Her final GPA was 4.645923. When she graduated, she went to Caltech and majored in biochemistry, according to Modern Family Fandom

When Mitch asks Claire about Alex skipping a grade, she says that her daughter was invited to do that but they decided against it. Eventually, Lily tells her parents that she’d rather skip the grade and she does.

This character is known for her wit and sassy personality

Lily isn’t afraid to speak her mind and share her savage side with the rest of the family. When Mitch and Cam were thinking about adopting another baby, she kept saying she hates the baby. When her dads were sick, she unplugged their humidifier without a second thought.

At one point, Cam and Mitch told her that she wasn’t using her regular smile in pictures. As a result, she stomped her feet, causing her dads to notice how “melodramatic” she was becoming — and they loved it.

“I can be a little sassy sometimes like Lily, but mostly we’re not alike at all,” the actor who portrays Lily, Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, said during an interview with Smashing Interviews Magazine.

Is Lily the smartest member of the family?

Not all of the members in this family are super smart — Haley dropped out of college while Luke didn’t even go. Lily, with her wit and her school smarts, proved to be one of the smartest characters in the series, Modern Family.

After over 10 years, this series came to a close with Haley and Dylan moving into Mitch and Cam’s house, as well as a number of members of this extended family moving away. Don’t worry, though, the Dunphys will always leave their front porch light on.

Some episodes of Modern Family are available for streaming on Hulu. Fans can learn more about the actors, including the actor behind Lily, thanks to their social media accounts.
