After over 30 years in the Big Apple, RuPaul’s Drag Race: All-Stars winner Monét X Change moved to sunny Los Angeles. She’s also trying new foods, dipping her toes (or rather, her heels) into a plant-based lifestyle.

Thanks to her partnership with Alpha Foods and the new YouTube series, The Plant-Based Way with Monét, fans can learn more about meatless options from the “Sponge Queen” herself.

Monét X Change is the star of Alpha Foods’ YouTube series, ‘The Plant-Based Way with Monét’

She’s known for being congenial both on and off RuPaul’s Drag Race. Monét X Change appeared as a drag contest for season 10, later winning her season of RuPaul’s Drag Race: All-Stars. She’s also a fan of food (even if Bob the Drag Queen gets mad about Monét’s love for apples.)

Monét shared that she did “enjoy cooking a lot” at the beginning of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Now, she “sometimes” finds time to cook for herself. That’s one reason why her partnership with Alpha Foods is a perfect match.

“Alpha Foods makes it more accessible for those of us that don’t cook as often — all you do is pop a burrito in the microwave and that sausage,” Monét said, during an interview with Showbiz Cheat Sheet, adding an excited “whoop.”

It’s thanks to this meat-alternative company that Monét X Change stars in a new YouTube series, The Plant-Based Way with Monét, interviewing everyone from Alaska 5000 to Isis King.

The first episode of The Plant-Based Way with Monét debuted on Alpha Foods’ YouTube Channel on Feb. 23. There, Monét interviewed Charity Morgan about her experience as a world-class chef, cookbook author, and self-proclaimed “plegan.”

Monét X Change does not exclusively follow a plant-based lifestyle

Although she is interested in becoming plant-based, Monét is not exclusively vegan. The drag performer shared that she does enjoy some aspects of the lifestyle, especially with so many restaurant options in the Los Angeles area.

“I don’t want to trick or confuse anyone, I am not solely a plant-based eater, but I definitely have wanted to go on that journey,” Monét said. “You know, a lot of my friends are vegan, are plant-based, and just living in LA, there are many options as opposed to New York, where it’s like a dollar pizza on every corner.”

“In LA, there are there specific restaurants that catered to [veganism],” she continued. “And people really try to usher in that experience, And since moving to LA, just to better my life and myself — I’ve definitely been interested in what becoming plant-based can do, not just for like health-wise, but honestly, the skin, girl.”
