After graduating from college in the late ’80s, Mo’Nique worked as a customer service representative at a local phone company. She started in the entertainment industry when her brother dared her to perform at the Baltimore Comedy Factory Outlet.

From there, she became a standup comedian as a debuting member of The Queens of Comedy. By 1999 she was starring on The Parkers. Now, over 20 years later, Mo’Nique has had highs and lows in the industry, but she has never wavered from what she thinks is right.

She explained that this prompted her to focus on her health, which led to her dropping over 100 pounds. She is now under 200 pounds for the first time in 30 years. Mo’Nique told People that she has not chosen to use any gimmicks or have any weight loss surgery. Instead, the comedian has focused on her fitness routine and diet.

She works out with a physical trainer, and she has a raw diet. She even showed her fans how to make a barbecue watermelon over the summer months.

In addition to focuses on her health and wellness, Mo’Nique is also focused on aging gracefully in an industry when people want to remain as youthful as possible forever. The comedian recently shared why she chooses to let her gray tresses flourish in an inspiring Instagram post. She explained,

Hey beautiful sisters. I’ve been asked numerous times why don’t I dye my hair. I WILL NOT. Sisters why are some us afraid to let it happen. I’m going to let the NATURAL PROCESS HAPPEN. I’m enjoying maturing, mentally & physically. I remember when I was younger seeing beautiful older women, that was good being older/wiser. Imma let it happen. I Love Us 4REAL!
