Morgan Wallen is one of the biggest stars in country music — and one of the most controversial. Wallen has appeared in the headlines a lot over the past couple of years, from his disastrous Saturday Night Live booking to his use of a racial slur after a night out with friends.

The country star has worked hard to overcome his scandals. These days, he’s back to attending awards shows and releasing albums. Many new fans are discovering Wallen and digging deep to learn about his relationship history. This includes his former on-again, off-again romance with Katie Smith, the mother of his young son, Indigo Wilder.

Morgan Wallen and Katie Smith dated on and off for a few years

Morgan Wallen and Katie Smith, known to her fans as “KT,” reportedly started dating sometime in 2017. The two appeared on each other’s social media feeds. But the two broke things off just as Wallen’s star was rising in the music industry. Although Wallen and Smith were ostensibly single, they welcomed a baby son named Indie Wilder in July 2020.

In the years since giving birth, Smith has been transparent about how she and Wallen first bonded and why the breakup was so difficult. In a December 2021 post on her blog, Thot Thoughts, she detailed how she and Wallen first connected over the video-sharing app Snapchat. Smith described how she and Wallen “hung out very often, started dating- and then got engaged within a few months.” However, things eventually turned sour between Smith and the aspiring country music star.

What did Katie Smith say about her ‘toxic, trauma bond’ with Morgan Wallen?

In her blog post, Smith explained how her relationship with Morgan Wallen dissolved. “We broke off the engagement but still dated consistently for about two years, living with one another for about three — but that third year was rocky. The kind of toxic, trauma bond you hear about on TikTok,” Smith said.

The social media influencer said they still saw each other off and on. However, when Wallen was on the road, he “wasn’t the most faithful.” Smith didn’t slam Wallen for his alleged cheating, however, describing how Wallen’s “normal life” was suddenly turned upside down by becoming a country music star.

“Temptation is thrown your way all of the time. I didn’t get it at the time, I just thought I wasn’t good enough. I see and understand all of it now,” she wrote. She also revealed that turning to religion helped her not only deal with the stress of her romance with Wallen but also her recovery from an often-tough upbringing, which included sexual assault when she was young.

At the end of the day, Smith doesn’t blame Wallen for how their romance ended, admitting in her blog post that her religious faith has helped her through the trying times. “God allows me to use my trials to help other people get through theirs,” Smith said.

Although Smith said that after she welcomed her son with Wallen, co-parenting was initially a challenge, she wrote that they were able to adjust to things eventually. “Once we adjusted to the co-parenting, everything has been a million times better. It will always have tough times, but the most important thing is that we will always put our little angel first,” Smith said.

These days, Smith is a social media influencer, sharing pictures of her son with her 430,000 followers on Instagram. She is currently in a relationship with Luke Scornavacco, a former high school quarterback and aspiring influencer.

Neither she nor Wallen have any other children and seem to be focused on building their individual careers and parenting their little boy. As for Wallen, he has been open about his affection for his son and has admitted that having a child has “changed” him, calling his son a “gift,” according to Entertainment Tonight
