In the mood for a Russell Crowe movie marathon? Check out these films starring the award-winning actor that are currently streaming. Crowe’s Oscar-winning turn in 2001’s Gladiator isn’t available for free on any streaming platforms at the time of publication, however, a handful of his other films are.

1. Russell Crowe is a husband trying to free his wife from prison in ‘The Next 3 Days’ (Netflix)

In this 2010 action-movie-meets-crime-drama, Crowe plays a husband and father whose life changes when his wife, as played by Elizabeth Banks, is accused of murder. Crowe’s character finds himself taking care of their young son on his own. 

Meanwhile, as his wife finds herself at the center of a high-profile murder trial, Crowe’s character steadfastly believes in her innocense. He goes to Damon Pennington (Liam Neeson), a former inmate who wrote a book on escaping from prison, for advice on how to free his wife. What ensues is Crowe freeing his wife and leading law enforcement on a massive manhunt. 

Directed and written by Paul Haggis, The Next Three Days is currently streaming on Netflix. Look out for some nods to Neeson’s 2008 film, Taken, and an appearance by Olivia Wilde.

2. ‘State of Play’ stars Russell Crowe as a journalist trying to solve a suspicious death (Netflix)

Get ready for a star-studded ensemble cast in this 2009 thriller-drama directed by Kevin Macdonald. It features performances by Crowe, Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Helen Mirren, and Robin Wright. 

U.S. Representative Stephen Collins (Affleck) has his entire political future ahead of him in State of Play. That is until his involvement as the head of a committee on defense spending links him to the death of his research assistant. Gone are his dreams of becoming a candidate in the race for president. 

There to find out what really happened is Crowe’s character, Cal McAffrey. He’s a journalist who happens to be friends with Collins. During he and Della Frye’s (McAdams) investigation McAffrey discovers the death of Collins’ research assistant is much bigger than anyone realized. 

State of Play is currently streaming on Netflix. In addition to the actors who play the main roles, look out for appearances from Ozark’s Jason Bateman, Viola Davis, The Blacklist’s Harry Lennix, and Jeff Daniels. 

3. Russell Crowe is a man with deadly road rage in ‘Unhinged’ (Amazon Prime Video)

Get a different perspective on road rage in Unhinged, a 2020 psychological thriller. Rachel, as played by Caren Pistorius, is running late for work when things get heated between her and a stranger (Crowe) at a traffic light. 

The incident, which Rachel doesn’t think much of, quickly escalates. Suddenly she finds herself being chased and tormented by Crowe’s character, doing everything she can to keep herself, and everyone she loves, alive.

A departure from Crowe’s typical movie roles, 2015’s Fathers & Daughters is a drama about a father-daughter relationship. Crowe plays Jake Davis, a Pulitzer-winning author dealing with being a single father about the death of his wife.

Meanwhile, his adult daughter, Katie Davis (Amanda Seyfried), is figuring out how to form meaningful relationships as a major player in her dad’s award-winning book.

Crowe and Seyfried are the leads but, according to IMDb, there are also supporting performances by Jane Fonda, Aaron Paul, Octavia Spencer, and Diane Kruger.
