People find different ways to cope with tragedies. Since Naya Rivera’s untimely death, her friends and family have been dealing with the shock and pain of it in their own ways. Naya’s ex-husband Ryan Dorsey and sister Nickayla Rivera decided that moving in together would be the best way to support the Glee actress and Dorsey’s son Josey. Though the move made people wonder if Nickayla and Dorsey were dating, the pair continues to claim that they are platonic.

Why did Ryan and Nickayla move in together?

Naya went out on a pontoon boat with Josey on Lake Piru on July 8. On July 13, her body was found and she was pronounced dead. After her sister’s death, Nickayla stepped up to help Dorsey take care of Josey.

“Since the devastating loss of Naya, Ryan’s role in parenting has of course been amped up,” a source told Entertainment Tonight. “He’s the primary caregiver, but has been relying very heavily on Nickayla. He would not be able to do this without her help and involvement.”

According to the source, there has been nothing romantic about their relationship.

“They simply share the same goal — to give Josey the best childhood possible and to raise him the best they can without Naya,” the source continued. “They’ve also found comfort in one another because they understand what each other is dealing with and they know how exhausting it can be to be grieving in the public eye while trying to keep it together for Josey.”

What do Nickayla and Ryan have to say?

After rumors of Nickayla and Dorsey dating began floating around, Nickayla posted to her Instagram Stories to make it clear that she and Dorsey were not together.

“In the darkest times of my life, the only thing that is important is my friends and family,” she wrote. “Showing up for my nephew, even though I can’t show up for myself. I’m not concerned with the way things look because no one can see each agonizing moment we all endure.

“What matters most I’ve learned, is to show compassion, not to judge others, and never take a moment of life for granted,” she continued. “I hope you all can do the same.”

Now, Dorsey is also chiming in. Yesterday, he took to Instagram to explain the situation in a 12-minute video.

In the video, Dorsey explained that he hadn’t really been on social media in months but had been informed of the rumors about him and Nickayla’s relationship. He revealed that it was actually Josey who asked if Nickayla, who he refers to as Titi, could live with them.

“And then he asks me if Titi can live with us. ‘I want Titi to live with us forever,’ because she’s now the closest thing that he has to a mom, because you’re gonna need all the help you can get as a single parent, trying to build your career and navigate this disaster with your child and you deal with it every hour of every day for 80-plus days now,” Dorsey said.

“I wouldn’t want any of you to ever have to go through any of that and to have to let him get what he wants, what he asks for, and what he needs right now, which is his family. Even if you know it’s temporary and it’s not forever. It’s a temporary situation and, after all that he’s had to go through, how could you deny him that, because of what? Because of what some strangers might think or say or spew some hatred based on some ill-advised, illogical, misinformed tabloid? It’s sad. It really is,” he said.

He ended the video hopeful that fans would now let him and his family continue to heal in peace.
