Netflix’s new fairytale series, Sweet Tooth, is quickly becoming a fan favorite, partly due to its compelling narration. And if the voice actor sounds familiar, it might be because he’s a certified Hollywood legend.
Who is the narrator of ‘Sweet Tooth’?
Sweet Tooth is narrated by James Brolin, an Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actor, director, and producer who’s been entertaining audiences for over 60 years. He is the father of Josh Brolin (most recently known for his role as Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe) and the husband of legendary singer/actor, Barbra Streisand.
Brolin is known for his roles on shows like Marcus Welby, M.D, and Life in Pieces. He has also been featured on episodes of Monk, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Psych, Castle, and Community.
Brolin’s film credits include Skyjacked, Westworld, and The Amityville Horror. In the early ‘80s, he was tapped to replace Roger Moore as James Bond in Octopussy. But when Moore signed back on to the project, Brolin was forced to step away from the role.
James Brolin is heard in every episode of ‘Sweet Tooth’
Sweet Tooth is based on a DC Comic written by Jeff Lemire and comes from executive producers Jim Mickle, Beth Schwartz, Robert Downey, Jr., Susan Downey, Amanda Burrell, and Linda Moran.
The series tells the story of a world where a suspected virus wreaks havoc and causes babies to be born half-human and half-animal. Gus, a young human-deer-hybrid, ventures out into a dangerous world where people like him are feared and hunted.
On his adventure, he befriends a loner named Jepperd. And together, the two set out into the real world to find answers.
Sweet Tooth stars Christian Convery, Nonso Alonzie, Will Forte, and Aliza Vellani. James Brolin narrates the entire series and can be heard at the beginning and end of each episode.
James Brolins’ narration wowed some ‘Sweet Tooth’ fans
Brolin’s distinct voice lends itself perfectly to the Sweet Tooth story. And some fans were wowed at how well his narration added layers of calm and depth to the series.
“I thought it added a nice additional layer to the story and gave it more of that “adventure” feel,” one Reddit fan wrote. “And the casting was great! Such a great voice for a narrator.”
“I liked the narrator a bit, actually,” another Redditor added. “Maybe because the voice is just soothing or what, but I found it especially cool when some dialogue was repeated (added on).”
As of now, there is no news on the second season of Sweet Tooth. But if the series gets a renewal from Netflix, there is a good chance Brolin will return to narrate once again.
All eight episodes of Sweet Tooth are currently streaming on Netflix.
