What happens in ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’?

So far, Hulu has released seven episodes of Nine Perfect Strangers. In each episode, Masha, the eccentric leader of Tranquillum House, pushes the envelope a little further. At first, the wellness resort seems relatively normal, if not a little strict. Guests must hand over their electronic devices and commit to 10 days of detoxing and wellness.

Unfortunately, it soon becomes apparent that Tranquillum is not like other wellness retreats. Masha has her guests’ bags searched and confiscates prohibited items. More startling than that, she microdoses her guests with psilocybin without their knowledge. Masha has been encouraging her guests to take more and more psychedelic drugs to push her own selfish agenda.

The guests might be in danger in the ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’ finale

At the end of episode 7, Masha and the Marconi family took large doses of hallucinogenic drugs in an attempt to reconnect with dead loved ones. This spells trouble for everyone involved. Lars reveals that the last person Masha gave this concoction to died. Masha tries to reassure Lars by telling him that the man died because he was unhealthy. However, there’s no way this drug mixture can be safe.

The official Twitter page for Nine Perfect Strangers dropped a short teaser for the final episode, revealing that the rest of the guests aren’t safe either. It seems that they have finally decided that it’s time to leave Tranquillum House. “I say we get out of here right now,” Tony says to the other guests while pulling his luggage.

However, Tony, Frances, Ben, and Jessica soon make a terrifying discovery. “Where did all our cars go?” Frances asks while looking around an empty garage. Next, the teaser shows the guests locked in a room. “Start the fire,” Masha tells one of her wellness consultants. Could Masha be trying to burn her guests alive?

This scene is likely taken from the end of the Nine Perfect Strangers novel by Liane Moriarty. Masha locks her guests in the yoga studio and threatens to set it on fire if they don’t prove they are worthy of being kept alive.

Things turn out fine at the end of the book. However, that doesn’t mean the Hulu series will follow suit. The series has already strayed from the book in many ways. Samara Weaving has also stated in an interview with Digital Spy that the series will have a “very different” ending than the book.

Where to watch the ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’ finale

The final episode of Nine Perfect Strangers will drop to Hulu on Sept. 22 at midnight. Some international viewers can also watch the series on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, Sept. 24.
