For the first time, actors Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal teamed up in the 2016 movie Nocturnal Animals. In the triller, Adams portrayed Gyllenhaal’s fiancee as the two tried to maintain a difficult and turbulent relationship. But the Enchanted star once revealed her scenes with Gyllenhaal were so convincing that it made her own husband uncomfortable.

Although perhaps not as well known as Adams, her husband Darren Le Gallo is also an actor. She met her future husband in a theater class when they were both aspiring performers. But they started off as just friends.

“I had another boyfriend, and Darren was dating some girl I did scenes with him, and I liked him and thought he was really sweet,” Adams said in an interview with VanityFair.

Although at first Adams wasn’t sure if Lee was assertive enough.

“I was really focused on the classes—he was a little scared of me,” she continued.

Gallo has also been a tremendous support to Adams’ career. Despite Adams being a bit more in the limelight, Gallo has displayed no ego about the situation.

“He’s not competitive with me,” Adams said. “He has a wonderful talent, and there aren’t many people in the world who are like that, where he does not think that my success is his failure. He just doesn’t see it like that, and I don’t either. If anything, he’s probably a little more protective.… He’s very protective of other people’s ownership of me.”

Amy Adams’ chemistry with Jake Gyllenhaal made her husband uncomfortable

Amy Adams has been paired with many actors onscreen over the years. But it was her movie relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal in Nocturnal Animals that unnerved her husband a bit. In Tom Ford’s 2016 drama, the two were playing a couple on the verge of a break-up. Because of this, there were many scenes where Adams and Gyllenhaal were fighting.

“Working with Jake was the best, especially when we were filming the argument scenes,” the Enchanted star said in an interview with InStyle.

Gyllenhaal and Adams spent limited time together in the movie, but that was all that was needed to establish their chemistry. And it was something Adams’ husband took notice of whenever she and Gyllenhaal were arguing.

“We were only on set together for three days, but the chemistry happened so naturally. It even made my husband [Darren Le Gallo] a little uncomfortable. He was like, ‘I think we’ve had these same arguments!’ I was proud that the fights came across as really authentic,” Adams said.

In an interview with The Guardian, Adams dived a little bit further into how she and her husband related to the film. For instance, Adams’ character would sometimes criticize Gyllenhaal’s work as a writer. This would mirror how Adams would sometimes critique the work of her own husband in real life.

“I’m very honest and straightforward, and so I’ve looked at my husband’s artwork and been like, ‘You could do better than that’ [as her character does in the movie],” she said.

However, doing Nocturnal Animals also taught Adams something important that helped strengthen her relationship with Gallo.

“But I also learn a lot of lessons from my characters, and this one reminded me that staying the course has proven to be far more rewarding because there have definitely been times over the course of a 15-year relationship where you’re just like, ‘I can’t…’ But then I’m like, ‘It’s OK, we’ll figure it out,’” she confided.
