Oddly enough, wearing a mask has become a political issue in the United States. As coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread, some individuals have chosen to forsake safety in the name of ‘personal freedom’ and are choosing not to wear facemasks, thus endangering both themselves and others. Now, Tom Hanks is weighing in. The venerated American actor is now calling on folks to put the mask on, or to suffer his judgment. Unfortunately, while Hanks may be calling for common sense protections, not everyone with a public voice agrees.

When it comes to COVID-19, Tom Hanks is not messing around. When COVID-19 first began spreading across the United States, Tom Hanks was one of the first celebrities to come down with the virus.

Luckily, Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson have both made a recovery from coronavirus. Now, Hanks is speaking out against those who think they don’t need to wear a mask. And from an individual who has suffered through the virus, this is a message worth heeding.

In a video recording, as reported by BBC, Hanks encouraged everyone to wear a mask, and take other safety precautions.

“Whether or not we like it, we’re all in this together, we’re all affected by this, so let’s at the very least — there’s a lot of stuff you can do beyond that — but at the very least three tiny things [that are] in everybody’s wheelhouse, if you choose to do them,” started out Hanks. “Wear a mask, wash your hands, social distance.”

Hanks continued, “If you can’t do that, I don’t have much respect for you. “

“It’s pretty easy to do your part. If you drive a car you’ve gotta use your turn signal, not drive too fast, and avoid pedestrians. Those are three things that are pretty easy to do. In COVID-19 if we social distance, wear a mask, and wash our hands, we should be able to get along. So let’s do that,” the actor concluded.

Tom Hanks fans react to the message

Tom Hanks is one of the United States’ most beloved actors. Fans are hoping that his message will get out to folks who are being difficult about wearing masks, and help sway them.

One Redditor wrote, “When one of the nicest people in the world says he has no respect for you, you need to reevaluate your thought process.”

“Sheriff Woody has spoken. Those who don’t wear the mask will have the fate of Lotso and Stinky Pete,” joked another user.

“If I was a person not wearing a mask, I’d feel pretty ashamed of myself right now. I mean, it’s Tom Hanks. Do you really want to be the person who disappoints Tom Hanks?” asked one user.

Bill Burr Absolutely Roasted Joe Rogan for Not Wearing a Mask

While Tom Hanks is using his large audience and social pull to try and convince others to take proper safety measures, not all celebrities are on the same page.

During a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, the podcaster and UFC fight commentator recently declared that “masks are for b*tches.” Bill Burr, Rogan’s guest at the time, was there to set Rogan straight.

Burr roasted Rogan, telling him, “Oh God you’re so tough with your f*cking open nose and throat. Gee Joe, and your five o’clock shadow. This is a man right here! A man doesn’t wear a mask! Why does it always become like that, it always becomes the man versus the b*tch.”
