One Chicago is the lineup of Chicago-based shows from the producer Dick Wolf, including Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D.

All of these shows are beloved by fans for their unending drama, charming characters, and interesting perspective on Chicago, though there seems to be one type of plot that has begun to get on the nerves of fans. Read on to find out more about an “overdone” plotline according to fans.

‘One Chicago’ is full of complicated pregnancies

The three Chicago shows appeal to fans because they have plenty of drama, which keeps the show interesting and suspenseful, encouraging fans to come back and watch each week. Because the shows follow healthcare workers, firefighters, and police officers, many episodes feature violence, critical health conditions, and tense scenes. Like any good drama, the show is also full of interesting relationships between characters.

One device used to facilitate more drama within the shows has been complicated pregnancies or miscarriages. One character, for example, experienced an ectopic pregnancy, lost the child, and eventually experienced an aneurysm, according to the Chicago Fire Wiki. Another character’s water broke in the fire station and ended up giving birth in the back of a squad rig. These are just a couple of the several examples of characters struggling with pregnancies or having complicated births, and fans are beginning to get sick of these stories.

Fans on Reddit are getting tired of these plot lines

One Redditor in the r/ChicagoFireNBC subreddit created a post voicing their fatigue with bad or complicated pregnancies, especially in Chicago Fire. The Redditor discussed how many other characters have undergone difficult pregnancies or labor, and they state that they wouldn’t be surprised if more characters undergo these challenges in the future since it seems to be a pattern.

Other fans on Reddit agreed, saying that difficult pregnancies are, “a tired plot on this and other OC (One Chicago) shows.” Another fan asks, “Look, can we have one pregnancy on any Chicago show go vaguely smoothly? We’ve had traumatic miscarriages on all three, and deliveries going badly on two of them. I get the drama, but please?”

The fans appreciate the need for drama to keep the show interesting, but the consensus is that it’s time to add something fresh that hasn’t already been used more than once in each show.

The most recent pregnancy within the One Chicago franchise is between Cruz and Chloe. In one scene, Cruz laments that he has always wanted kids, but given the current state of the world he has his doubts about raising a child after Chloe tells him she’s pregnant. Some Redditors speculate that Chloe will inevitably have a rough pregnancy, while others believe fans might get the smooth pregnancy they are hoping for.

One Redditor believes that, “Chloe will be fine since she’s a minor character,” while, “Stella, Sylivie, and Violet on the other hand… you never know since it’s DH (Derek Haas, writer and producer). I would hope Stella and Sylvie both have smooth pregnancies though… most likely toward the end of the series.”

The delivery of Chloe and Cruz’s baby was delayed, as many did not deem it safe to have a baby, or other guest stars, on the set during the COVID-19 pandemic. Fans will have to wait and see whether Chloe and Cruz get to welcome a child into the world with a smooth delivery, or if the writers will add some more drama to this particular plot.
