Oscars 2022: BTS Made a Surprise Appearance
The 2022 Academy Awards took place on March 27. At the annual award show, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook of BTS made a surprise appearance as part of a special segment. For the pre-recorded segment at the Oscars, the members of BTS shared their love for Disney and Pixar.
BTS appeared at the 2022 Oscars
The 94th Academy Awards were broadcast on ABC. In a pre-recorded segment from the award show, the members of BTS discussed their favorite Pixar and Disney films.
When asked to name their favorite musical films, Jimin shared the film Coco was a favorite of his. Coco is an animated Pixar film that was released in 2017.
“Coco!” Jimin shared.
“It’s a real masterpiece,” RM agreed. “I watched it three times. And I cried a lot.”
V added, “Truly, Pixar is unbelievable.”
“I didn’t cry though,” Jimin said of Coco.
RM praised Will Smith during BTS’ appearance at the 2022 Oscars
After the members of BTS discussed their feelings about Coco, J-Hope shared that he really enjoys watching films made by Disney.
“Overall, I like Disney movies,” said J-Hope.
Jin agreed, saying, “Disney movies stimulate emotions well.”
J-Hope added, “I really liked Aladdin.”
RM then praised Will Smith‘s portrayal of Genie in the 2019 live-action film Aladdin.
“Shout out to Will Smith, Aladdin!” RM said.
BTS fans reacted to the band’s appearance
Because it was not known BTS would appear at the 2022 Oscars, fans of the septet were shocked the band was included during the broadcast.
“BTS shows up in tbe most random places…,” one fan joked on Reddit.
“I was on the phone and I’m like HOLD UP I KNOW THAT VOICE. Lol. This was random to say the least heh (but expected given ABC-Disney),” wrote a Reddit user.
Another Reddit user wrote, “Omg! Was watching live with my mom and I froze when I saw ‘with BTS’ I thought it was behind the scenes but when they popped up on the screen I was so giddy and my fam was confused lol!”
Because Smith later captured attention for hitting Chris Rock during the award show, some fans of BTS joked about RM giving a shout-out to Smith.
“That Will Smith shoutout, though, lol,” a fan wrote on Reddit.
“Oh no….their comments about liking will smith didn’t age well….and by age I mean it was less than an hour…,” a fan commented on Reddit.
BTS will perform at the 2022 Grammy Awards
While no one expected BTS to appear at the 2022 Oscars, the band’s appearance at the upcoming Grammy Awards is highly anticipated.
At the award show, BTS are nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their song “Butter.” The septet will also perform at the award show.
The 2022 Grammy Awards will be held on April 3.
