Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline are happy together

In April 2020, fans shipped the fictional Sarah Cameron and John B., wishing they would become a real-life couple. On June 14, fans got their wish.

Stokes confirmed his real-life relationship with Cline on Instagram after fans spent months speculating that they were an item.

“Cat’s outta the bag,” he captioned on a series of Instagram photos of he and Cline on the beach. Stokes told Life & Style how they met on the set of Outer Banks, about “a week and a half or two weeks” before shooting began. As their on-screen romance evolved, so too did their real-life relationship.

Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline made the decision to make their relationship public together

Stokes is very close with his mother, who advised him on the dangers of making his and Cline’s relationship public knowledge.

“I was like, ‘I think I’m gonna post [the pictures],’” Stokes told Us Weekly. “[My mom] was like, ‘Really? You understand what happens when you do that?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah. I do, Mom. Sure do.’” Being the gentleman that he is, Stokes consulted with Cline before officially making the announcement.

“Then I texted Maddie, and I said, ‘What do you think?’” Stokes added. “She said, ‘I don’t care.’”

Though she was fine with Stokes’s decision to go public, Cline didn’t think he would do it almost immediately.

“OK, but clarification,” she added. “I thought he meant posting it at some point in the future. He didn’t clarify what time. So I didn’t know, and all of a sudden [I] get texts, and he says, ‘Oopsie.’ And there it was. Modern romance.”

Fortunately, Stokes and Cline seem to have gotten a better grasp on their communication. It’s part of what allows their relationship to be as strong as it is.

Madelyn Cline and Chase Stokes keep their disagreements away from the set of ‘Outer Banks’

Dating a co-star is no easy feat. With any relationship, there are bound to be disagreements. But Cline and Stokes don’t let that impact their work on Outer Banks

“As a rule, we never bring anything negative to set,” Cline told Entertainment Tonight. “If there’s a disagreement or a conversation that needs to be had that could potentially rain on the parade for that day, that’s never something that happens before work.”

It’s also important for Cline that she and Stokes maintain a healthy friendship and a healthy co-working relationship, too.

“When we go to set, we’re individuals and we are still, at the very minimum, best friends and we are partners and we are screen partners,” she added. “We’re there to support each other. Sometimes you give that person space. Sometimes you go and you pull them aside and you talk with them if they had a difficult scene and they need to download or whatever. It’s whatever your partner needs at the time.”

Many fans admire Stokes and Cline’s consideration of their roles in Outer Banks while balancing their personal relationship.
