Sarah Cameron’s mom has been a mystery for Outer Banks fans since season 1. But with the introduction of new characters in season 2, some fans think they’ve cracked the case. Find out who some Outer Banks fans think Sarah Cameron’s (Madelyn Cline) mom could be in the Netflix series.

Rose Cameron is the matriarch in ‘Outer Banks’

Most Outer Banks fans aren’t convinced Rose is the Cameron children’s birth mother. “All of the Cameron kids refer to the Cameron matriarch as Rose,” one fan writes on Reddit. “They don’t really have a familial relationship, and she seems a bit young to be their mother?”

Like this fan, many Outer Banks viewers question what happened to the Cameron’s mother. “Was there any reference in the show to what happened with their mother?” they add. Having seen season 2 of the Netflix series, some fans are convinced a new character could be the Cameron’s biological mom.

‘Outer Banks’ fans think Carla Limbrey could be Sarah Cameron’s mom

The Netflix series has never specified who Sarah Cameron’s birth mother is. However, that hasn’t stopped fans from theorizing, especially with one new character in season 2

“After a rewatch of seasons 1 and 2, I have devised that Limbrey could possibly be the mother of Sarah and Rafe,” one fan shared in an Outer Banks Reddit thread. “We know Ward and Limbrey were previously associates, leading to the idea that she could be the lost Mrs. Cameron.”

After Limbrey and Ward Cameron (Charles Esten) had a falling out, this fan thinks a divorce could have occurred, leaving Ward with the kids. In their opinion, Limbrey’s connection to Rafe Cameron (Drew Starkey) in Outer Banks season 2 is familial.

Who is Carla Limbrey in ‘Outer Banks’ Season 2?

All of the original Outer Banks cast returns for season 2, except for Sheriff Peterkin (Adina Porter), who was shot and killed at the end of season 1. The Netflix series also introduces several new characters in its sophomore season. One of them is Carla Limbrey.

Played by Elizabeth Mitchell, Limbrey is one of the main antagonists in season 2. She works against John B. (Chase Stokes) and the Pogues to gain possession of the Cross of Santo Domingo — a massive golden cross that sank with the Royal Merchant ship.

Limbrey is dying from an unknown disease and she believes the mythical shroud contained in the cross can save her life. The only thing stopping her from getting the shroud is the Pogues, who possess Denmark Tanney’s key.

Denmark Tanney is a distant relative of Pope Heyward (Jonathan Daviss). His key has been in Pope’s family for decades.

Throughout the season, Limbrey partners with Rafe Cameron to get to the cross. Since Limbrey only cares about the shroud, Rafe makes a deal to take the cross when all is said and done. In doing so, he hopes to dig his family out of the financial hole Ward put them in.

Since the show never addresses who the Cameron’s mom is, many fans are convinced it will be a storyline in a future season of the show. For now, the third season of Outer Banks has yet to be confirmed. Stay tuned to Showbiz Cheat Sheet for updates on the future of the Netflix series.
