The finale of ‘Outer Banks’ Season 2 was a wild one

In the last episode of Outer Banks, viewers watched the Pogues face off against the Camerons for the golden cross of Santo Domingo. Despite their best efforts, the Camerons were able to make off with the treasure. Rafe (Drew Starkey) had them at gunpoint but ultimately decided not to fire. He promised Ward that they would come back for Sarah (Madelyn Cline) later on.

While they escaped with the cross, Carla Limbrey (Elizabeth Mitchell) was across the country cooking up another plan. She showed up at an unknown residence to meet with none other than John B’s (Chase Stokes) presumed-dead father John Snr. (Charles Halford), who promised to help her locate the shroud she’s been searching for on the condition that she first help save his son.

Has ‘Outer Banks’ been renewed for a third season?

Netflix has not yet renewed Outer Banks, but many believe it’ll be approved for another season due to all of its success. On the chance that it does, showrunners Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke have said that the return of Big John will be the big focus.

It’s going to be instrumental and maybe the spine [of season 3] basically,” Burke told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s obviously a gigantic revelation that’s going to power a huge part of the third season. I’m super interested to see how people are going to react or if they’re even going to remember who he was! We’re really having our fingers crossed the moment works and that people are excited.”

Josh Pate added that viewers would also see the treasure hunt “expand.” But for now, they’re stuck on a deserted island, where romances will unfold. Josh noted that they are “open” to the idea of Kiara dating JJ after things with Pope fizzled, “but we kind of left it for season 3.”
