‘Outer Banks’: Why Fans Think Madelyn Cline and Chase Stokes Are Dating

If you’re a fan of Netflix’s Outer Banks, you know the chemistry between John B and Sarah Cameron is undeniable. Many fans of the series have started to speculate whether the actors who play these roles, Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline, are in a relationship. 

Here’s why fans think Stokes and Cline might be dating. 

Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline share an on-screen chemistry 

In the Netflix series Outer Banks, John B and Sarah Cameron share a chemistry unlike any other. A rich girl from the wealthy part of town, Sarah Cameron longs for a life of adventure and mischief — not the life her father, Ward, had planned out for her. When she agrees to help John B in his quest to find the $400 million in Royal Merchant gold, Sarah quickly starts to develop feelings for the Pogue boy from the wrong side of the tracks. 

Early in season 1, Sarah was dating Topper (Austin North), but she broke it off with him to pursue a relationship with John B. Unlike Topper, who treated Sarah like a possession, John B viewed Sarah as a partner. 

As actors, Stokes and Cline both capture the emotion necessary in a role like this. In just a few days, Sarah Cameron falls for John B and chooses him over her father. “I remember thinking on it and telling [the writers], ‘I wholeheartedly believe Sarah is 100% absolutely head over heels for John B., and I think she absolutely would get on that boat with him,’” Cline explained, speaking to Glamour about the conclusion of season 1.  

Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline are quarantined together 

Outer Banks premiered during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which has everyone sheltering in place. Stokes has taken up residency in Cline’s apartment, along with a few other castmates, including Drew Starkey, who plays Sarah’s older brother, Rafe. In an interview with E-News, the two explained how being quarantined with each other was better than being alone. 

Despite Starkey living with them, fans started to speculate that Stokes and Cline were an item — or could be by the time the stay-at-home orders are lifted. 

Chase Stokes’ Instagram comment confused fans

An active Instagram user, Cline often shares photos from magazine shoots and other projects she’s working on. When she posted a photo from her shoot for 1883 Magazine, Stokes commented: “Heart rate… decreasing.. help.” Fans went wild, to which Stokes commented again, this time saying: “Man, I really stirred the pot here, didn’t I?”

While somewhat suggestive, his original comment wasn’t substantial enough to prove any relationship between him and Cline. Likely, the two are just friends who are supportive of each other’s creative endeavors!

Are Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline dating? 

Much to the disappointment of Outer Banks fans, Stokes and Cline are both single. Despite their on-screen chemistry, Stokes’ comments on Instagram, and the fact that the two are quarantining together, that’s not enough evidence to confirm a relationship between the two. 

Given the way season 1 of Outer Banks ended, fans will likely continue to Stan the idea of Stokes and Cline being together. But until either actor confirms a romantic relationship, the two are simply supportive co-stars who have enjoyed watching each other succeed.
