Outlander has dropped a new trailer teasing the highly anticipated season 6, which will finally arrive in early 2022. The one-minute clip shows that the American Revolutionary War is coming soon, and it’s casting a shadow over Jamie, Claire, and everyone else at Fraser’s Ridge.

With the impending conflict on the horizon, which side of the American Revolution will Jamie and Claire be on?

Fraser’s Ridge was a gift from the British crown in season 4 of ‘Outlander’

After spending the first three seasons of Outlander mostly in Scotland and France, the story moved to the New World in season 4. Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) ended up shipwrecked off the coast of Georgia after rescuing Young Ian (John Bell).

Instead of returning to Scotland, the couple claimed land in North Carolina that the crown gifted to Jamie for his help against the American rebellion. They turned that land into Fraser’s Ridge, which continues to be the setting for Outlander heading into season 6.

Season 6 is based on Diana Gabaldon’s book ‘A Breath of Snow and Ashes’

Season 5 ended with peace at Fraser’s Ridge, but also with the American Revolutionary War brewing. As the new trailer indicates, the coming conflict is weighing heavily on everyone.

“It’s starting,” Claire says, looking worried. “A storm. The war.”

The new season will pick up where the previous one left off, and will be based on the sixth book in Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series, A Breath of Snow and Ashes. Jamie will continue to be pulled into two different directions — between his oath to the British crown that gave him his life at Fraser’s Ridge and the fight in the New World that he knows the Americans will win.

The red coats appear in the new trailer, making it clear that the crown will be expecting Jamie and the men of Fraser’s Ridge to fight against the colonists. But America is Brianna’s (Sophie Skelton) home, and they know the outcome of the war.

It’s hard to believe that Jamie and Claire would fight on the side of the British. But if they go against the crown, they could lose Fraser’s Ridge. According to Heughan, the life Jamie and Claire have built there is about to fall apart.

“I think Jamie and Claire have spent a lot of time building this community [at Fraser’s Ridge] and I think this is the season where we really see that disintegrate,” Heughan recently told the audience at New York Comic-Con.

Sam Heughan says that ‘cracks are really starting to show’ for Jamie and Claire

Heughan also acknowledged the end of season 5, which featured Jamie rescuing Claire from Lionel Brown and his men after a brutal sexual assault. He says that the couple’s personal trauma will also be a part of season 6, not just the upcoming war.

“Yeah, Jamie went to save Claire, but I think, obviously, she hasn’t gotten over that trauma, and I think Jamie is very aware of it,” Heughan explained. “He’s keeping an eye on her, and I think these cracks are really starting to show — not only for Jamie and Claire but for the rest of the inhabitants of Fraser’s Ridge. The war is coming.”

‘Outlander’ fans will love and hate the Christies

As if the looming war and Claire’s PTSD wasn’t enough, the Frasers will also have to deal with new neighbors — the Christie family. Tom (Mark Lewis Jones) and his children Allan (Alexander Vlahos) and Malva (Jessica Reynolds) are new to Fraser’s Ridge in Outlander season 6, and they will be stirring up major trouble. Balfe has described this storyline as “heartbreaking” and “really twisted.”

“We have this family, the Christies, that arrive at the Ridge, and they initially are integrated into the new community, but very soon we start to see a lot of the history that’s between Tom and Jamie really get under the skin of everyone,” Heughan revealed. “And it starts to sort of disintegrate or decay what Claire and Jamie have built at Fraser’s Ridge.”
