‘Paranormal Activity 7’ Trailer’s Sinister Letter Teases Story Details

The Paranormal Activity horror franchise is returning with Paranormal Activity 7, renamed to Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin. The plot details have been murky for quite some time. The teaser trailer gave a peek at the movie that looks radically different from its predecessors. The Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin full-length trailer briefly shows a mysterious letter that highlights some particular story details.

‘Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin’ is a possession story

Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin is told from the perspective of documentary filmmaker Margot (Emily Bader). She learns that she’s originally from a secluded Amish community. She hopes to locate and learn more about her long-lost mother and extended family. However, nothing is as it seems in this small community.

Margot discovers an array of strange occurrences that begin to raise her suspicions, but she continues to investigate. One child mentions to her that her mother is still in the community. Margot finds a creepy, old church with demon references. There’s even an eerie tunnel that appears to hold the community’s darkest secrets.

The Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin trailer has an abundance of quick, scary moments that build over the course of the run time.

Margot digs through a dresser, finding a collection of letters. However, the trailer gives a quick glimpse at one of the letters. Margot indicates that the letter is from her mother. The video can be paused at the right moment to read what the letter has to say.

“By the time you read this, I’ll be gone,” the letter reads. “Don’t look for me. You won’t find me. I wasn’t even going to write this letter, but I couldn’t leave without saying something. But what words? There are no words to express my feeling betrayal, confusion, and horror. I don’t know if this is real or dream. It’s a nightmare! Lies. All my life. Endless lies and now you want my baby. You’re all monsters! Do not look for me. I’ll hide her. She will be safe and protected from your sick cult. Sarah.”

Her mother, Sarah, clearly left the note for members of the community that she once trusted. The trailer references a demon named Asmodeus, who’s trapped inside a chosen woman. The community likely used Sarah as a vessel. However, she succeeded in getting Margot to safety. But, now that Margot has returned, she may be next in line to be possessed.

That terrifying entity crawling in the dark toward the camera at the end of the trailer is likely a possessed Sarah, who has been trapped within the ominous tunnel that Margot discovered. Will Margot be able to escape this terrifying cult? Previous installments would indicate the answer is “no.”

‘Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin’ is going straight to Paramount+

Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin is the seventh installment, including the spinoff. It’s the first Paranormal Activity entry to not get a theatrical release. The new movie and a documentary will both hit Paramount+ in time for Halloween.

Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin will be premiering exclusively on Paramount+ Oct. 29.
