The Peaky Blinders Season 6 cast features a number of familiar faces — and a few new ones. Cillian Murphy will reprise his role as Thomas Shelby, of course. But it looks like he has a new opponent played by Stephen Graham.

Den of Geek notes Graham has worked with show creator Steven Knight before, and he’s now joining the Peaky cast for its final season. In May 2021, he was spotted filming with the show on Bramley Moore dock in Liverpool.

Graham mentioned how much he loved working with Murphy on the show, too. “Cillian’s such a wonderful actor, he’s amazing and what a lovely, lovely, lovely fella,” he told Radio X’s Chris Moyles, according to NME. “To the extent, Chris, where there was a couple of moments – I had to pinch myself a couple of times because I was sat there in a scene with him, doing a rehearsal and stuff and I’ve kinda gone, ‘Ahh that’s Tommy Shelby!’”

Will Stephen Graham play Al Capone in ‘Peaky Blinders’ Season 6? Steven Knight answers

Fans expect Thomas Shelby to go head to head with Oswald Mosley in Peaky Blinders Season 6. And there was also some suspicion that Stephen Graham would play Al Capone, another potential enemy of the Shelby family. The final season of the series takes place during Capone’s gangster days, and Graham has played the character before on Boardwalk Empire. So, is that who Graham’s playing in the new season?

Fans hoping to see Al Capone in Peaky will be disappointed. Steven Knight said Graham isn’t playing the character. “
“Not Al Capone – I didn’t want to go west, Knight told the Obsessed With … Peaky Blinders podcast, according to Digital Spy. “Because it’s a minefield once you go into Chicago gangsters. I refer to him last series, but I didn’t want to go into that.

With this in mind, who will Graham play? Knight remains mum on the details, but Den of Geek reports he said Graham will play “a particular Scouse character that becomes part of the story. Who else would you cast? I think he’s just happy to be using his own accent.”

What is the final season of the show about?

What is Peaky Blinders Season 6 about? Season 5 left off with someone sabotaging Thomas Shelby’s plan to assassinate Oswald Mosley, so we imagine the new season will pick up where this storyline left off. Additionally, Tommy started talking to his dead wife, Grace Shelby. He also ended the season with a gun to his head — though, judging from the trailer, it’s clear he doesn’t die here.

The new season will show Tommy continuing to go head to head with Mosley while also battling new enemies. It looks like he and the rest of the Shelby family, including Lizzie, get more deeply involved in worldly politics. Because it’s the final season, we anticipate a few major character deaths, too.

Steven Knight also said Peaky Blinders Season 6 will end with the first air raid siren in Birmingham at the beginning of World War II. Director Anthony Byrne shared this with the Obsessed With … Peaky Blinders podcast.
