People’s Choice Awards 2021 Movie Nominees – Here’s What Got Snubbed

The Academy Awards has a specific voting method. However, the People’s Choice Awards 2021 movie nominations put the power in the general public’s hands. They get to vote annually for their favorite pieces of entertainment. The movie awards nominees include a collection of mostly big blockbusters. Nonetheless, some major titles were snubbed. The People’s Choice Awards tend to focus on titles with mainstream appeal and only account for a portion of the year’s releases, so that’s something to keep in mind.

Nominees:

  1. Black Widow
  2. Coming 2 America
  3. Dune
  4. F9: The Fast Saga
  5. No Time to Die
  6. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
  7. The Tomorrow War
  8. Venom: Let There Be Carnage

The People’s Choice Awards 2021 is missing out on big titles such as A Quiet Place Part II, In the Heights, and The Suicide Squad. These titles are mainstream films that belong to big IP that deserve to stand out in the overall Movie of 2021 category.

The Comedy Movie of 2021

Nominees:

  1. Coming 2 America
  2. Free Guy
  3. He’s All That
  4. Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard
  5. Jungle Cruise
  6. Space Jam: A New Legacy
  7. Thunder Force
  8. Vacation Friends

Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar and Zola are noticeably missing from The Comedy Movie of 2021 nominees, although they likely didn’t make the cut due to being a bit more minor of titles.

The Action Movie of 2021

Nominees:

  1. Black Widow
  2. F9: The Fast Saga
  3. Godzilla vs. Kong
  4. No Time to Die
  5. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
  6. The Suicide Squad
  7. The Tomorrow War
  8. Venom: Let There Be Carnage

Nobody, Cop Shop, Zack Snyder’s Justice League are all noticeably absent here. The long-awaited Zack Snyder’s Justice League especially made a lot of noise, so it’s strange that it didn’t make the cut over The Tomorrow War.

The Drama Movie of 2021

Nominees:

  1. A Quiet Place Part II
  2. Cruella
  3. Dune
  4. Fatherhood
  5. Halloween Kills
  6. In the Heights
  7. Old
  8. Respect

Halloween Kills is an odd choice for the drama category, although it seems like horror and drama were collapsed into a single category. Pig is one of the best films of the year and deserves a slot in this category.

The Family Movie of 2021

Nominees:

  1. Cinderella
  2. Luca
  3. Raya and the Last Dragon
  4. The Boss Baby: Family Business
  5. The Mitchells vs. the Machines
  6. Tom and Jerry
  7. Vivo
  8. Yes Day

It’s a bit surprising to see Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway missing from this list. It’s a heartwarming movie for the whole family that boasts an A- CinemaScore rating.

People’s Choice Awards 2021 – The Male Movie Star of 2021

Nominees:

  1. Chris Pratt – The Tomorrow War
  2. Daniel Craig – No Time to Die
  3. Dwayne Johnson – Jungle Cruise
  4. Eddie Murphy – Coming 2 America
  5. John Cena – F9: The Fast Saga
  6. Ryan Reynolds – Free Guy
  7. Simu Liu – Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
  8. Vin Diesel – F9: The Fast Saga

Nicolas Cage turned in a career-best performance in Pig, although perhaps the movie wasn’t big enough to justify getting a nomination. Timothée Chalamet is everywhere these days, so it’s a bit surprising to not see his performance in Dune getting a nomination, even if it isn’t his most engaging performance. Venom: Let There Be Carnage got love in other categories, but Tom Hardy didn’t get a nomination here.

The Female Movie Star of 2021

Nominees:

  1. Awkwafina – Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
  2. Charlize Theron – F9: The Fast Saga
  3. Florence Pugh – Black Widow
  4. Jennifer Hudson – Respect
  5. Leslie Jones – Coming 2 America
  6. Margot Robbie – The Suicide Squad
  7. Salma Hayek – Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard
  8. Scarlett Johansson – Black Widow

Emily Blunt is a big name missing from this list. She delivers solid performance in both A Quiet Place Part II and Jungle Cruise, both of which performed well at the box office.

People’s Choice Awards 2021 – The Drama Movie Star of 2021

Nominees:

  1. Anthony Ramos – In the Heights
  2. Emily Blunt – A Quiet Place Part II
  3. Emma Stone – Cruella
  4. Jamie Lee Curtis – Halloween Kills
  5. Jason Momoa – Dune
  6. Jennifer Hudson – Respect
  7. Kevin Hart – Fatherhood
  8. Timothée Chalamet – Dune

A couple of the snubs in other categories are nominated here, such as Emily Blunt and Timothée Chalamet. However, Emilia Jones for Coda is a huge missed opportunity. She delivers one of the very best dramatic performances of the year.

The Comedy Movie Star of 2021

Nominees:

  1. Dwayne Johnson – Jungle Cruise
  2. Eddie Murphy – Coming 2 America
  3. Emily Blunt – Jungle Cruise
  4. Leslie Jones – Coming 2 America
  5. Melissa McCarthy – Thunder Force
  6. Octavia Spencer – Thunder Force
  7. Ryan Reynolds – Free Guy
  8. Salma Hayek – Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard

Awkwafina got a nomination for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in the Female Movie Star of 2021, but she’s also deserving of a nomination here. She delivers on most of the movie’s humor. Kristen Wiig in Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar is also missing here. Taylour Paige is hysterical in Zola, but the movie didn’t make quite enough noise.

The Action Movie Star of 2021

Nominees:

  1. Charlize Theron – F9: The Fast Saga
  2. Chris Pratt – The Tomorrow War
  3. Daniel Craig – No Time to Die
  4. Florence Pugh – Black Widow
  5. John Cena – F9: The Fast Saga
  6. Scarlett Johansson – Black Widow
  7. Simu Liu – Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
  8. Vin Diesel – F9: The Fast Saga

Gerard Butler and Frank Grillo from Cop Shop are missing from the nominations. Tom Hardy’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage performance is also absent, despite the fact that the movie is nominated elsewhere. His chemistry with Venom carries the movie.

The People’s Choice Awards 2021 are on Dec. 7 at 9 PM EST. The awards show will be broadcast on the E! Network and on NBC. It will also stream on Hulu+, Paramount, and YouTube TV.
