There are multiple sex scenes between Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon (Regé-Jean Page) in Bridgerton. Fans are probably wondering what it was like for the actors to film them together. Dynevor said working on the Netflix show was different from her previous sex scenes for a good reason. [Warning spoilers for Bridgerton!]

There are many sex scenes in ‘Bridgerton’

Bridgerton follows Daphne Bridgerton coming out and trying to find a husband. She comes across Duke Simon Basset and they agree to pretend to be courting to attract better prospects for Daphne. But they unexpectedly fall in love.

The show also reflects the lack of sex education for women during the 1800s. Daphne isn’t really told about sex until her wedding day by her mother, and even that discussion lacked a lot of information.

So we see the new bride try to figure out her sexual relationship with her husband on her own. This is displayed in multiple sex scenes. The actor revealed what it was like to film them.

Phoebe Dynevor said she felt safe

Dynevor talked to Grazia about the episode. “I love her coming-of-age story and her sexual awakening,” she said. “I love seeing the female gaze and watching her figure it out for herself. She’s a late bloomer, but it’s not like she can google it.”

She revealed which steamy scene was her first to film. “My first-ever scene was in episode six, where Simon is going down on Daphne,” Dynevor said. “And it was so great, because it felt safe and fun: you choreograph it like a stunt, or a dance.”

She added, “It’s crazy to me that that hasn’t been there in the past. I’ve done sex scenes before that I can’t believe I did: it was only five or six years ago, but it would not be allowed now.”

The actor has worked in television shows before this role. She was on Younger, Snatch, Dickensian, The Village, Prisoners Wives, and Waterloo Road.

There is one scene which is controversial

Some fans were happy with the intimate scenes in the episode. But there is one that is more controversial.

Daphne assumes Simon can’t physically have children. But then she figures out that he is choosing to not try to have them by pulling away at the end of sex.

Once she figures this out she has sex with him, and gets on top. There is a point where Simon tells her to wait, but she keeps going. Afterward, she angrily yells at him and accuses him of lying about not being able to have children.

Some fans believe the scene to be non-consenual and sexual assault because Daphne doesn’t respect Simon’s wish for her to “wait”. But the show doesn’t treat it that way. Although the married couple talk about separating, they end up staying together and never acknowledging what Daphne did to him.

The actors have yet to share their opinion on the scene. But it sounds like Dynevor had a positive experience on set.
