Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are bringing another generation of the long-running franchise to life. However, the upcoming games aren’t giving up all of the information surrounding the game right away. As a result, some fans are creating theories around the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet legendaries and how they impact the games’ plots.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are the first games in Generation IX for the franchise. As is typical for the franchise, each title will have a different legendary to encounter. Pokémon Scarlet will have Koraidon, while Violet will have Miraidon. Their visual design gives fans an idea of what they can expect from them, but any information surrounding them is not available as of yet.

Koraidon is a dragon standing on two legs. Its look potentially implies that it could be a dragon and fighting type. Meanwhile, Miraidon is also a dragon, but with blue electric details. As a result, it could be a dragon and electric type. However, this is mere speculation, as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet continue to hide any game data regarding the two new legendaries.

‘Pokémon Scarlet’ and ‘Violet’ fan theories suggest how the legendaries are involved in time travel and alternate dimensions

Reddit fan theories suggest a potential look into what Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will do with Koraidon and Miraidon. It could also have heavy implications for the franchise plot direction moving forward. The original Redditor suggested that the two legendaries are actually the same Pokémon, but humans in the future had a hand in evolving it.

“My theory is that the legendary Pokémon on the cover of the Scarlet version and on the cover of the purple version is the same Pokémon and that it has been modified by man in the future because I find some similarities between the two.”

Another Redditor responded that they could see the Pokémon universe playing with time moving forward, especially since the protagonist in Pokémon Legends: Arceus was sent into the past. The new games could potentially jump between the future and the past.

However, another commenter suggested another fan theory – it’s not about the past and the present, but about alternate dimensions.

Sun and Moon and the Ultras, those games toyed with alternate dimensions,” the Redditor wrote. “The storyline of Kalos reference alternative dimensions. I think Scarlet/Violet will take it a step further and allow you to cross dimensions. Ala Spirited Away. Hence the two professors and the box legendaries.”

The games will be open world

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are certainly taking big leaps with the new generation. Along with two new legendaries, the new video game will also be an open-world adventure. It will open up the environment more than the previous iterations of the franchise. It would certainly be different for the games to experiment further with the timeline and alternate dimensions.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will also introduce three new starters – Sprigatito (Grass), Fuecoco (Fire), and Quaxly (Water). Official announcements also introduced three other new Pokémon – Smoliv (Grass/Normal), Lechonk (Normal), and Pawmi (Electric).
