It sounds like the truth about what happened to Lauren Baldwin will come to light in Power Book II: Ghost Season 3. In the latest season, Tariq St. Patrick arranged to have Lauren moved out of town to protect her after she wore a wire against Cane Tejada and Brayden Weston. But she was kidnapped by Brayden and seemingly killed by Effie Morales.

While the two are keeping what happened under wraps, show creator Courtney Kemp hinted the truth will come out next season, causing a big shift in Tariq’s relationship with Brayden and Effie.

Tariq’s relationship with Brayden and Effie will shift in ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Season 3

Kemp spoke about the show in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. She said when asked for teaser information about the third season that it would dig into what really happened to Lauren and its impact on Tariq’s relationship with his friends.

What I would say is, Effie and Brayden have a huge secret that they have to keep from Tariq,” she began. “Cane is also part of that secret, but it’s really about Effie and Brayden and what their relationship will be with Tariq, given whatever happened onscreen with Lauren. What has happened to Lauren, as you discover going forward, will have a seismic effect on the relationships of our three musketeers.”

“There will be fault lines drawn between Tariq and his friends, for various reasons,” she continued. “And then those will affect some fault lines that will be drawn within the Tejada family. There will be a series of earthquakes, and then a series of aftershocks that will shake the foundation and remake the series in a really sort of impactful way. That’s season 3.”

Conflict will also emerge within the Tejada family

Another focus of the season is the aftermath of Zeke Cross’ death. In the Power Book II: Ghost Season 2 finale, the character was tragically killed in a case of mistaken identity. He was preparing to leave town on Mecca’s jet when he was shot and killed by Lorenzo Tejada, who mistook Zeke for Mecca. Kemp noted Zeke’s murder will greatly affect Monet next season.

“She’s going to be a very different person next year,” she told TVLine of Monet. “Next season, the version of her that was trying to hold onto control in her world, that’s gone now. That’s over.”

“The plan’s gone. Her son’s gone,” she continued. “And if you were watching all along, she preferred him, did she not? She preferred him to her other kids. So now the chickens will come home to roost in terms of how she treated those children, in terms of what she was hoping for her future, all of that. And plus, her husband is guilty of the crime! There is that. She’s going to find out in a big way and that’s going to be… well, I’ll leave that for Season 3.”
